Fortunes At Fortuna

Europa League’s Group C is wide open and before Matchday 3 begins, it is Sparta Prague who are top of the shop.

Czech Them Out

The Philippe Clement era is well and truly underway at Rangers. The former Monaco boss was installed during the international break and wasted no time in leading his new charges to league victory at the weekend.

A victory that saw the blue half of Glasgow make rather light work of Hibernian and with a 4-0 win now in the history books for Clement, he will hope that it serves as the perfect springboard for further positive results.

Something they certainly need during a league campaign that already sees them seven points behind arch rivals Celtic and although the new Rangers boss will not ever publicly wave the white flag, he may have to concede domestic domination until next season.

At the same time, it may allow him the perfect opportunity to put more of his eggs in a Europa League-sized basket and with all four teams in Group C currently sitting on three points, qualification to the Round of 16 is certainly within their grasp.

A grasp that could have been more akin to a vice like grip but after an impressive showing at home to Real Betis during Matchday 1 of the competition, the hard work was all but undone after their soiree in Cyprus.

Defeat to Aris Limassol came under the watchful eye of interim management team Steven Davis and Alex Rae. They could only manage a 2-1 defeat to the Cypriot opponents – a result that could come back to haunt them before Christmas comes around.

With that being said, there is also a chance to right the wrongs before the international break and there is no better time to do so than Thursday. Sparta Prague serve as the opponents and also the team that is currently top of this mini league.

Like Rangers they also won their opening Europa League encounter of the season, as they got the better of Aris Limassol by three goals to two. Like Rangers, they also lost on Matchday 2, as they suffered a 2-1 reverse to Real Betis.

While in addition to ruling the roost on the continent, Sparta Prague are also the dominant force domestically. A 4-0 win over SK Dynamo Ceske Budejovice sees them keep their crosstown rivals Slavia at arm’s length in the Czech First League.

But now it is time for the first of my two tips and first up I am backing the Rangers feelgood factor to continue into the following week. Nothing better than new manager bounce and especially when the away win is priced at odds of 14/5.

Our First Prediction is Away Win

In addition to this, I am going to back both teams to score but offer up a correct score in the process. Rangers lost 2-1 in Cyprus; I am backing them to win 2-1 in Czechia. This selection is priced at a tempting 12/1.
