As for opponents Real Sociedad, they have been solid rather than spectacular. Unbeaten this season, but it is three draws from four and I think this will see Los Blancos earn a fifth win in a row at odds of 13/20.

Struggling After Promotion

Next up we are off to the Bundesliga, as Heidenheim play host to Werder Bremen and with observers referencing the Luton fairy tale in the Premier League, Sunday’s hosts have a story that has many parallels.

In existence for only 16 years, the back end of last season saw the club reach the promised land of Germany’s top tier. However, the start to this current campaign has given the Voith-Arena outfit something of a wakeup call.

Just one point from nine in the bank account – even if it was a surprise 2-2 draw at Borussia Dortmund and with Werder Bremen getting their first league win just before the international break, I am backing them to make it two from two at odds of 17/10.

A Sluggish Start

Now we are off to Serie A and the surprise act at the start of the season is Roma. Not because of a lightning-fast start but due to a sluggish trio of performances that currently has Jose Mourinho’s men sitting in the relegation zone.

An opening weekend draw at home to Salernitana was subsequently followed up by defeats to both Verona and Milan. A win after the international break is certainly needed and Sunday’s opponents should provide the perfect opposition.

Because if Roma’s start to the season has been bad, Empoli’s has been even worse. Three defeats from three, no points and not even any goals to help their cause. They enter the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday, and I am backing them to exit empty handed, as the home win is at 4/9.

Across The Channel

While my final pick takes me to Ligue 1, as Lorient play host to Monaco and with visitors currently leading the standings, they will look to keep both PSG and Marseille at arm’s length with a win on the road this Sunday.

The Monte-Carlo based outfit have been transformed under the managerial watch of Adi Hütter and with the former Borussia Monchengladbach boss switching locations over the summer, his new paymasters must be pleased with the way he has taken to French football.

Unbeaten after four matches, with only a 3-3 draw with Nantes serving as the sole blemish. Host’s Lorient currently find themselves 10 places worse of in 11th and have only lost once this season. Unfortunately for them, I am backing defeat number two and the away win at odds of 17/20.
