Sheffield Wednesday to beat Wycombe – 6/10

Competition for the top two in League One this season looks strong.

Even a fifth of the way in, it’s hard to see Ipswich not securing an automatic spot, which would theoretically leave Portsmouth, Bolton, Plymouth Argyle and Sheffield Wednesday contending to join them.

Wednesday should expect to be firmly in the mix with the quality and depth of their squad, especially seeing as they possess arguably the best player in the division in Barry Bannan.

The Scot’s technical wizardry and exquisite set piece deliveries make such a difference to the Owls, who have accrued 12 points from five games against sides outside the current top six.

Bradford to beat Wimbledon – 3/4

After three straight league wins, Bradford City are starting to live up to their pre-season billing.

The Bantams have defeated Tranmere and Walsall sides who have designs on the top seven, before brushing aside strong starters Stevenage at Valley Parade.

Andy Cook is in flying form up top, Matty Platt and Timi Odusina have forged an excellent centre-back pairing, Richie Smallwood is running games in midfield while the likes of Scott Banks and Tyreik Wright have already made their mark from wide positions.

Wimbledon, meanwhile, have had a tough start to the league campaign, with Johnnie Jackson’s side victorious just once since the opening day.

Doncaster to beat Crawley – 11/10

A run of three straight defeats has put a dampener on what had been a great start to the season, results wise, for Doncaster.

Gary McSheffrey’s side still sit in the top half, but they need victory over Crawley to guarantee not to drop into the bottom half by Saturday’s end.

The good news for Donny is that midfielder Ben Close played in the midweek EFL Trophy victory at Lincoln, and McSheffrey described his return as “like a new signing”.

The former Birmingham and Coventry winger will be hoping Close can have that instant impact in their league showings when Rovers welcome Crawley Town to South Yorkshire.

The visitors have just six points from their opening nine league games and there are question marks over how seriously the club is being run, seeing as Town have announced they will be scouting YouTubers from “The Sidemen” to feature in November’s FA Cup match.

Salford to win at Sutton – 19/10

Sutton United will be delighted with their recent form, as a run of three wins in four league games has seen Matt Gray’s side climb to 10th.

The Amber & Chocolates are an incredibly competitive, well-drilled team, but there is a difference in quality and depth between themselves and Salford, who have a vastly superior budget.

The Ammies, currently in sixth, can afford to have experienced Championship target man Matt Smith sitting on the bench.

Technician Elliot Watt runs games from the base of midfield to allow Ethan Galbraith and Odin Bailey to push forward, while Luke Bolton, Callum Hendry and Elliott Simões look to rotate and interchange smoothly as a front-three.

Sutton won’t make things easy, but in the end Salford’s quality should shine through.

Stevenage to beat Harrogate – 4/7

Winning promotion from League Two is all about responding quickly to setbacks.

Stevenage did that in August: after losing 1-0 at Salford, Steve Evans’ troops won three in succession in all competitions.

The Boro need another defiant response after coming undone 3-0 at Bradford, but their record against sides outside the top seven reads 19 points from a possible 21.

With Dan Sweeney and Carl Piergianni at the back, Stevenage are unlikely to be cut open two league games running, and should resume normal service against a Harrogate side that have taken just one point from the last 15 available.
