Tizz Talks: Premier League 31st Dec - 10/1, 10/1, 13/2 & 13/2 Betting Tips

The final fixtures of the Premier League year take place on New Years Eve with six games scheduled across the day. The early game sees strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers take on Champions League hopefuls Manchester United, for which I have picked out a 10/1 bet builder.

Following that we have four games taking place at 3pm and I have eyed up two bets for the Newcastle United vs Leeds United match.

And finally we are in for a thriller at The Amex Stadium when high-flying Brighton take on league-leaders Arsenal in the 17:30 game, again I have picked out a bet builder for the match.

12:30 - Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Manchester United (10/1 Bet Builder)

If we are to go off previous encounters between the sides then we aren’t in for a classic. In the last seven meetings between the sides (in all competitions) the matches have produced just seven goals. A lot of that boils down to Wolves style of play which has been based on defensive solidarity and building from the back. This season though they have been unable to find that formula and it’s resulted in them currently sitting in the relegation zone.

Having conceded 25 times already this season Wolves need to adapt their approach and perhaps start looking at their attacking output as well. No side have scored fewer goals than Wolves (10) in the Premier League this season, and that is where their problems lay.

The Red Devils enter this game off the back of a 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest, making it three wins from their last four Premier League games. We are now talking about life after Ronaldo and the early signs look promising.

Casemiro has shored up Manchester United’s midfield and offered protection to the backline allowing Fernandes and Eriksen to be more fluid. Marcus Rashford has looked rejuvenated over the last couple of months and with Ronaldo having left the club there is more opportunity for him to continue playing himself into form.

So for my bet I have picked out a 10/1 bet builder with Paddy Power.

  • Bruno Fernandes to have 1+ shot on target
  • Marcus Rashford to have 1+ shot on target
  • Manchester United to win
  • Ruben Neves to be carded

Match stats

  • Ruben Neves has received more cards than any other Premier League player (7).
  • The last seven meetings between the sides have produced only seven goals in total.

Team news

  • Wolves will be without Pedro Neto, Chiquinho and Sasa Kalajdzic because of injuries. Boubacar Traore, Jonny and Danny Podence will be assessed before the match.
  • Lisandro Martinez returned to training this week but it remains to be seen how much Eric ten Hag wants to tinker with a winning side since the return. Jadon Sancho and Axel Tuanzebe miss out while Scott McTominay and Victor Lindelof are both available again having recovered from illness

3pm - Newcastle United vs Leeds United

At 3pm my boys Newcastle United will look to make it seven Premier League wins in a row when they host The Mighty Whites at St James Park. The Geordies are absolutely flying at the moment and Eddie Howe’s side became the first team to win more than 20 league games in a calendar year in the 21′st century, a remarkable achievement.

The Toon Army are currently unbeaten in 15 games in all competitions and have won nine of their last 10 games inside 90 minutes, going on to win the other match on penalties against Crystal Palace in the League Cup.

In his pre match press conference Eddie Howe stressed the importance of his side not getting complacent and allowing bad habits to creep into their game, and I expect Newcastle to maintain their intensity in front of a packed out St James Park for their final game of the year.

One man who we can praise for intensity is Miguel Almiron, a player who has long been admired by Newcastle fans for his workrate, but previously could have been accused of lacking a cutting edge. With eight goals in his last nine Premier League games he has now added substance to style.

For my first bet in the game I will be backing Miguel Almiron to score the last goal in the match priced at 13/2 with Paddy Power

Intensity is also a key component of Leeds United’s play and they will be hoping that they can match, if not better the homeside for workrate and efficiency. Jesse Marsch’s side come into the game off the back of two defeats, but they have come against Manchester City and Tottenham. This will make for an interesting test with Leeds having scored 12 goals in their last five Premier League games, will they have success against this solid Newcastle backline?

Unfortunately, for all their good work going forward they are also hemorrhaging goals, having conceded 14 times in their last five games, so they might have their work cut out here. I think we could see Leeds looking to tighten up knowing they face a touch task on the road, this may see them sacrifice some of that attacking freedom, and I think eventually that the Geordies will break down their opponents and take the three points.

For my second bet I will be backing Newcastle United to win 2-0 priced at 13/2 with Paddy Power.

Match stats

  • Both teams have scored in all of Leeds United’s last five Premier League games
  • The Toon have the best defensive record in the Premier League having conceded just 11 goals and also kept the most clean sheets (8).
  • Newcastle have won their last six Premier League games.
  • Miguel Almiron has scored eight goals in his last nine Premier League appearances.

Team News

  • The homeside will be without Alexander Isak, Emile Krafth, Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummet. Callum Wilson is a doubt for the clash.
  • Tyler Adams can return to the team following a ban, which will come as a significant boost to the visitors. Leeds will be without Patrick Bamford, Luis Sinisterra, Archie Gray and Stuart Dallas.

17:30 - Brighton vs Arsenal (10/1 Bet builder)

Premier League leaders Arsenal face a tricky encounter against a bogey side who they have only won two of their last 10 encounters against. Brighton come into the game fresh off the back of a 3-1 win against Southampton but will be without Moises Caicedo for this game as he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season; leading to a suspension, a huge blow for the Seagulls who will already be without World Cup winner Alexis MacAllister.

Regardless this will still be a stern test for Mikel Arteta’s side but one that could rally the troops in their title charge. The Gunners currently hold a five point lead at the top of the table, and have taken an impressive 25 points from nine games (8 wins, 1 draw). This has the potential to be the most entertaining clash of the day and I am expecting an open game with plenty of goalmouth action. Despite their less than encouraging record against Brighton I have a feeling that Arsenal will get through this game with a win due to key players missing for the home side.

For my bet I have picked out a 10/1 bet builder with Paddy Power.

  • Leandro Trossard 1+ shot on target
  • Gabriel Martinelli 1+ shot on target
  • Martin Odegaard to score or assist
  • Granit Xhaka to commit a foul

Match Stats

  • All of Brighton’s last five Premier League games have ended with both teams scoring a goal.
  • Arsenal have won eight of their last nine Premier League games.
  • Brighton have been a bogey side for Arsenal in recent years with the Seagulls having won five of their last ten encounters and Arsenal winning on two occasions.
  • Brighton have won the last two meetings between the sides.
  • Brighton’s last five games have produced 16 match goals.

Team news

  • Moises Caicedo is suspended, Jakub Moder, Alexis MacAllister and Adam Webster are expected not to feature.
  • Gabriel Jesus and Reiss Nelson will play no part, there are doubts over Emile Smith-Rowe and Kieran Tierney.
