12/1 Premier League Acca for Tuesday

Arsenal vs Newcastle United - Both teams to score - no (21/20)

A huge encounter at The Emirates on Tuesday as league leaders Arsenal face third placed Newcastle United. Arsenal currently hold a seven point lead at the top of the table and a nine point advantage over third place Newcastle, so a win here would do wonders for their title credentials. Mikel Arteta’s side have had plenty of success against the Toon Army at The Emirates in recent years and he will be hoping his side can build on their five game winning streak. As for Newcastle they were on a run of their own having won six games on the spin, that was until they ran into Leeds who held them to a 0-0 draw at St James Park on New Years Eve.

This game really is so tough to call with Newcastle boasting the best defensive record in the league, I’m just wondering how much home advantage will come into play here. The head-to-head records are dismissible, Newcastle are a different beast than they were 12 months ago, a lot has changed and they even won the last encounter 2-0. I am in the mindset that we could be in for a cagey but entertaining match with both teams defending resolutely. If I had to pick a side to win it, I think Arsenal might just nick it.

Match stats

  • Both teams to score ‘yes’ hasn’t won in any of the last eight meetings between the teams.
  • Arsenal have won seven of the last eight Premier League meetings between the sides.
  • The Magpies took the points in a 2-0 win at St James Park last time they met in May.
  • Arsenal have dropped just five points in their 16 Premier League games this season.
  • The Gunners have kept a clean sheet in their last seven home games against Newcastle in all competitions.
  • Newcastle have kept a clean sheet in six of their last eight Premier League games.
  • The North Londoners have won 10 of their last 11 home games against Newcastle.
  • Eddie Nketiah is looking for his 12th goal in 12 starts for Arsenal.

Leicester vs Fulham - Both teams to score - yes (8/13)

Fulham enter the game in good form with two consecutive wins coming against Crystal Palace and Southampton. The battering ram that is Aleksander Mitrovic is on 10 goals from 14 starts this season and I have a feeling he might add to his tally here. Leicester have lost their last two Premier League matches and have looked leaky at the back, especially against Newcastle who turned them over in a 3-0 loss. The Foxes sit three points above the relegation zone and will be hoping they can put a string of performances together, something they had managed to do before the World Cup break where they had won four out of five games, only losing to Manchester City.

Leicester’s problem for a couple of seasons now has been they look good going forward but they need some tuning defensively, having already shipped 30 goals this season it puts a lot of pressure on the forwards to score goals. Fulham aren’t too dissimilar if we are honest, they play football in a way that brings excitement and guarantees goals either for or against. I think both teams will score at least one goal in this game and it could be a thriller at the King Power Stadium.

Match stats

  • There have been at least three goals in 14 of Fulham’s last 15 Premier League games.
  • The last four meetings at the King Power Stadium have all seen at least three goals.
  • Both teams have scored in seven of the last eight meetings between the sides.
  • Fulham have won their last two Premier League games against Crystal Palace and Southampton.
  • Mitrovic has 10 goals in 14 Premier League appearances this season.
  • Fulham have the highest both teams to score percentage in the Premier League.

Everton vs Brighton - both teams to score no draw (9/5)

Frank Lampard was under a lot of pressure from certain sections of Everton fans, so the weekend’s draw against Manchester City will have hopefully eased the pressure. The last thing you need though when your back is against the wall is a pest, and Brighton are exactly that; having scored 11 goals in their last five Premier League games. I won’t lie, I thought that the addition of James Tarkowski and Conor Coady was shrewd business and if Everton are going to stay up this season it will be because of them two in the backline.

Brighton will always look to play expansive fluid football but I expect Everton to try and turn it into a dogfight in a bid to slow them down. I think it will be end-to-end and exciting but I can’t put my finger on who will win it, so I am going for both teams to score and the game to not end in a draw.

Match Stats

  • All of Brighton’s last six Premier League games have seen at least three goals.
  • The Toffees are without a win in five Premier League games.
  • Everton have scored in five of their last six games against Brighton.
  • All of Brighton’s last six Premier League games have ended with both teams scoring a goal.

Manchester United vs Bournemouth - Manchester United to win and two or more match goals (4/11)

Old Trafford opens its doors for the first time this year as they host southcoaster’s Bournemouth. The Cherries should be easy pickings for the Red Devils going off recent showings, having lost six of their last seven Premier League games. Gary O’Neill has got a mammoth task keeping this in-form Manchester United side at bay, and I fear that Bournemouth will be easy prey for Manchester United.

The application of the players I will never bring into question, but I do feel the squad lacks the quality needed to perform in the Premier League and that we are starting to see the undoing of a poor summer transfer window. United are looking to build and solidify a place in the top four and I think they will have too much firepower for a Bournemouth side who have been punching above their weight before now given their spendings.

Match stats

  • The Cherries have lost six of their last seven Premier League games.
  • The Red Devils have won five of their last six games against Bournemouth.
  • Manchester United have won their last three Premier League games.
  • Marcus Rashford has scored six goals in his last 8 games in all competitions for club and country.
