Conference League Winners

After winning last season’s edition of the Europa Conference League, West Ham now find themselves in the Europa League.

No Rice Please

When West Ham got the better of Fiorentina just a couple of months ago, it not only meant European silverware for the Hammers but also a guaranteed invite to the following Europa League campaign.

A competition that they reached the semi-finals of just two seasons ago and although the man at the helm has not changed, the personnel has, and the departure of Declan Rice finally took place across the course of the summer.

In fairness to West Ham, you would notice all that much right now. Yes, the sale of Rice would have been difficult to swallow but it is amazing how £105m can rebuild a squad and the rebuild process at the London Stadium has been rather painless.

Especially as James Ward-Prowse has made the switch from Southampton to West Ham and with the England international being just as adept as scoring goals as he is creating them, he will certainly be an asset to his new employers.

An asset that would have increased in value at the weekend, as Ward-Prowse scored the opening goal against Manchester City. A 1-0 lead at the interval, unfortunately the Hammers’ bubble would be burst come the final whistle.

A 3-1 defeat suggests it was a close encounter but were it not for Alphonse Areola in the West Ham goal and him winning a personal duel with Erling Haaland, it could have been a far larger defeat.

Then again, West Ham are not the first team to lose to Manchester City this season and they certainly will not be the last. Now they must put that one behind them and focus on the visit of FK Backa Topola on Thursday night.

An opposition that finished second in last season’s edition of the Serbian Super League, as they finished some 20 points behind Red Star Belgrade. However, the start of this campaign currently sees them sit top of the table.

That second-place finish did provide FK Backa Topola with a Champions League play-off, but they were handsomely beaten by Braga just a few weeks ago but that same finish guaranteed them entry into the Europa League group stage.

But now it is time for the first of my two tips and in fairness to FK Backa Topola, I think it is going to be a West Ham win, but the value is in deciding by just how many. In my opinion, I reckon a win by three goals and that opinion is priced at 7/2.

West Ham vs FK Backa Topola Predictions

The Hammers are tagged massive favorites to claim three points

In addition to this, I am going to place my focus on the new signing mentioned above. James Ward-Prowse has already broken the deadlock once in the past seven days, I am backing him to do the same at odds of 8/1.
