Formula One: Mexican Grand Prix Preview & Betting Tips

Best bets for this weekend’s Mexico GP

Lando Norris is a straightforward selection for Sunday’s Mexican Grand Prix at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City. The 22-year-old English driver has had a brilliant 2022 comprehensively outpointing his teammate, Daniel Ricciardo.

He also remains the only driver outside of the Red Bull, Ferrari, and Mercedes stables to claim a podium finish this season.

Mexico’s Downforce Requirements Make Lando a Top Bet for a Top Six

The McLaren driver has also retired from just one race, finished within the top-ten 15 times, and made the top six on six occasions. It is in the ‘top six’ market where our headline bet lays and the reasoning is simple. In a word: ‘downforce.’

This track sees cars fitted with the maximum amount of ‘wing’ that, in turn, provides the downforce required to glue cars to the track. This Sunday, cars will use the same configuration used for Monaco and Singapore.

…and at these tracks, McLaren and Norris have prospered, finishing fourth and sixth. With the demands on cars almost identical, another such strong result looks inevitable. So our bet selection is simple. Head to Coral and avail of their industry top-price of 5/4 about yet another top-six finish this weekend.

High Finishing Numbers Expected

There are plenty of other F1 betting opportunities and strong fancies this weekend. The guys over at bet365 look to have made a small mistake in offering 6/5 about over 17 race finishers. The last two races staged here featured 18 classified finishers. In 2016, 21 of the 22 starters completed the race.

Safety In Numbers

High finishing numbers should mean a lack of accidents or broken-down and stranded vehicles on the track. That is reflected in the use of a safety car at this race. Just one of the last four Mexican Grand Prix needed one.

However, it has been brought into play aplenty in 2022. This is reflected in Sunday’s odds. It is considered 4/9 to be needed by some firms. We much prefer the 7/4 available about not being called into action for a fourth time in five Mexican Grand Prix.

More Points for Retiring Vettel?

Sebastian Vettel is enjoying his final year in the sport and an excellent sixth – given the limited ability of his Aston Martin – in Japan was complimented with a seventh in Texas last weekend. The German has now won points in his last three starts and five times in the past seven races.

In a car that appears to be improving – Lance Stroll qualified his Aston in seventh last weekend – another top-10 finish for Vettel is surely more likely than probable. In layman’s terms… he should not be even-money to register his fourth consecutive points finish on Sunday and should be backed accordingly.
