Dutch Grand Prix Betting Tips
Formula 1 is back from its summer holidays. But bookmakers believe it is a case of normal service will be resumed. Red Bull has won all 12 races to date, and its star driver, Max Verstappen, is on a winning sequence of eight. Quoted on 1/4, online sportsbooks believe the home hero will win this weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix.
The race, staged at Zandvoort on the edge of the North Sea, returned to the Formula 1 calendar in 2021 following a 36-year absence. In 2021 Max Verstappen beat Lewis Hamilton and teammate Valtteri Bottas by 20 and 76 seconds. The trio were a lap clear of the field.
Twelve months ago, Verstappen won again. This time George Russell chased him home, and Charles Leclerc took third. A safety late into the race meant most cars finished the race on the lead lap, and the winning margin was four seconds.
And safety car intervention could be critical to this weekend’s race. A 4.2-kilometre lap that takes roughly 75 seconds to complete (at race pace) that is roller-coaster-like with a banked corkscrew and no meaningful straight …expect two scenarios: 2021′s procession or 2022′s exciting race that Lewis Hamilton and George Russell nearly won and Max Verstappen almost lost- all because of strategic decisions by all teams.
Zandvoort is a high downforce circuit, and these venues tend to reduce advantages instead of magnifying them. Max and his Red Bull are un-opposable at speed tracks, with long straights and obvious overtaking opportunities while removing the possibility of a mechanical malfunction.
Lando Can Go Well in Holland
On Sunday, while Verstappen is the rightful favourite, the 80 per cent chance of winning that his 1/4 odds suggest is surely wrong. Instead, we much prefer the 18/1 offered on Lando Norris. The McLaren driver can be backed at bigger odds, but only with firms that offer win-only terms and not each way.
Norris has never won a race but has been outstanding in 2023 – taking second in the British and Hungarian Grand Prix – and his rapidly improving car is best on high-downforce circuits. Should Verstappen falter, his Red Bull team make a strategic faux pas, or even an ill-timed safety car interruption prove expensive, Norris looks the most likely to benefit.
Lewis Can Take His Third Fastest Lap
In addition to his prohibitive race-winning odds, at 4/6, Verstappen is also unattractive in the ‘Fastest Lap’ betting market. Yes, he claimed the accolade in this race last season, but Lewis Hamilton earned it in 2021. Hamilton also took the fastest lap award in the last race in Belgium.
The Englishman also set the best time in Monaco earlier in the summer, and as that is a high-downforce venue, it’s a big form pointer to the outcome this weekend. Lewis is 7/1 to take his third fastest lap of 2023, and that quote looks bigger than his genuine chances.
