Haydock’s eight-race card on Friday afternoon has attracted plenty of runners. We will provide Horse Racing tips, previews and predictions for three of the races taking place, starting with a 17-runner six furlong handicap at 2.20pm.
Our second Horse Racing tip runs in the Casumo Mane Event Handicap at 4.05pm, run over one mile. With our final selection of the day coming in the finale at 5.10pm, the two mile Gamble Responsibly With Casumo Handicap.
Our Tip for the 2.20pm at Haydock:
Yet to get his head in front in seven outings this season, luck hasn’t been on the side of the Mick Channon-trained Chairmanoftheboard who has been running well without getting the rub of the green that can be so crucial in this type of race.
A close third behind subsequent winner Able Kane at Doncaster last month, the Slade Power gelding looked desperately unlucky on his most recent start at York recently when meeting plenty of trouble in running before just failing to catch short head scorer Nomadic Empire on the Knavesmire.
In the hands of title-chasing jockey William Buick, and with conditions in his favour, the five-year-old would certainly not be winning out of turn and is fancied to open his account for the season at the eighth attempt. Top weight Air Raid and two of the five three-year-olds in the race, Rebel At Dawn and Thaler, are feared most.
Our Tip for the 4.05pm at Haydock:
Unraced as a juvenile, the David Loughnane-trained Ffion won her two starts at three in 2020, both on Wolverhampton’s all-weather surface. The daughter of Sepoy hasn’t been as successful this year, having finished runner-up in four of her seven outings but with conditions in her favour at the Merseyside racecourse, can finally gain a well-deserved first victory of the season.
The mount of Richard Kingscote, who rides this track so well, finished an excellent second at Haydock on heavy ground back in May, when going down by a neck to Molls Memory before taking in the Kensington Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Second again, this time behind all-the-way winner Lola Showgirl, Ffion finished ahead of some decent fillies and mares, including Dreamloper and Lights On who went on to finish first and second in an Ascot Group 3 contest.
Off a mark of 83 and following a couple of decent efforts over a furlong shorter, the filly should appreciate the return to a mile and on ground that will suit looks sure to run a big race. The hat-trick-seeking Bake may prove the main danger.
Our Tip for the 5.10pm at Haydock:
Top weight Whitehaven should take plenty of beating in this soft-ground two mile stamina test with jockeys’ championship leader (as of Wednesday) Oisin Murphy in the saddle, the pair having gone close at the course back in August when beaten half a length.
That race was over an extended 1m 3f and the Le Havre gelding gives the impression that this step up in trip could be just what the Hughie Morrison-trained four-year-old needs to record a first victory of the season after winning four of his eight starts in 2020, all on testing ground.
Recent Pontefract scorer Wynford may give the selection most to do under a 4lb penalty.
