The Best Horse Racing Tips for Newbury & Ayr on Friday

The meetings at Newbury and Ayr provide some excellent Flat action on Friday afternoon, including several Listed races as well as some fiendishly difficult handicaps.

We will supply Horse Racing tips, previews and predictions for three of the races taking place, two from the Scottish track and one from the Berkshire venue.

Our Tip for the 2.10pm at Ayr:

Owned by Guy Reed Racing, the colours associated with the Kevin Ryan-trained Peggy Sioux have been carried by many famous horses down the years, particularly in the north. The daughter of Oasis Dream has a mountain to climb in an effort to emulate the likes of La Cucaracha, Warpath, Dakota and Shotgun, owned and bred by Reed who died in 2013.

However, after making an impressive debut at Hamilton earlier this month, when proving far too good for short-priced favourite Edward Cornelius, the mount of Tom Eaves could well be a Group horse in the making and the fillies’ chance should not be underestimated in this wide-open Listed contest.

Project Dante, Vintage Clarets and the Irish-trained Geocentric have all posted solid efforts in top juvenile races this season and are respected along with Mitbaahy, Canonized and Vertiginous. But there would be no more popular winner at Ayr’s Western meeting than Peggy Sioux, who looks the value bet of the race.

Our Tip for the 4.05pm at Newbury:

This 1m 4f Class 2 handicap looks a perfect opportunity for the Roger Charlton-trained Makram to record his second victory of the season, the other coming at Sandown back in July.

The son of Make Believe simply doesn’t know how to run a bad race, as apart from that game win at the Esher track, the four-year-old has finished a narrow runner-up on his other three most recent starts, at York, Redcar and Newmarket.

This trip, with plenty of give in the ground, are probably the optimum conditions for the mount of James Doyle, who looks sure to go close once again. The main danger is likely to be towards the bottom of the handicap in the shape of Star Caliber from the Andrew Balding stable.

Our Tip for the 5.00pm at Ayr:

Nobody enjoys a winner at Ayr’s Western meeting more than Mick Easterby, who now shares his licence with son David. And the colourful handler may have had this moderate race in mind for some time for his En Couleur who is still unexposed on the Flat, having had just the one start of turf alongside three on the all-weather.

It is the four-year-old’s form over hurdles (rated 102) however which suggests that Paul Mulrennan’s mount may be thrown-in here off a lowly mark of only 58. After finishing an eye-catching fourth in a competitive handicap at Wetherby over the smaller obstacle in February, the gelding was well-backed to take a juvenile contest at Market Rasen on his next start.

En Couleur could never get competitive there after hanging badly to his left throughout, giving the impression that a return to a left handed track would suit. The selection didn’t seem to handle Southwell’s all-weather surface on his most recent start. The betting is sure to prove a significant guide to the chances of the horse who looks more than capable of winning a race of this nature.
