The Best Horse Racing Tips for Sedgefield on Friday

The County Durham racecourse at Sedgefield stages a competitive eight-race card on Friday afternoon. We will provide Horse Racing tips, previews and predictions for three races at the popular meeting, starting with the 1.50pm contest, a 2m 5f novices’ handicap chase.

The races taking place at 2.50pm and 3.20pm supply our final two Horse Racing tips, the first an extended 3m 2f handicap chase and the second a 2m 1f mares’ handicap hurdle.

“Tip of the Day” – Lime Drop – 3.20pm Sedgefield

Connections look to have found a good opportunity for improving mare Lime Drop to record her fourth straight victory in a race that shouldn’t take much winning.

Brickadank (Longshot) – 1.50pm Sedgefield

With Brian Hughes in the saddle for the first time, the consistent Coup De Gold could finally get his head in front this season after finishing second on four occasions. Annies Prayer, with just four runs over hurdles to his name, is capable of improving significantly on the gelding’s promising fourth at Newcastle on his reappearance. But from a value perspective, the Micky Hammond-trained Brickadank is fancied to make the frame at the very least.

3lb Claimer Miss Becky Smith has gone close on the Cape Cross gelding several times, including at Carlisle last October when finding only favourite Headscarf Lil just over a length too good. Now racing off a 2lb lower mark and following a fair effort at Newcastle last month, the six-year-old makes plenty of each-way appeal with a featherweight to carry.

Chanting Hill (Next Best) – 2.50pm Sedgefield

Trainer Venetia Williams doesn’t send many horses to the County Durham track and the chances of her Don Herbager have to be taken seriously after the eight-year-old recorded his third victory over fences at Lingfield last month.

The mount of Charlie Deutsch seems to relish testing ground however, so any improvement in the current soft conditions may count against the Saddler Maker gelding. The lightly-weighted Cudgel could make the frame once again but the horse who makes most appeal is Chanting Hill from the Nick Alexander stable.

The eight-year-old mare has won two of her six starts over fences, which may have been three but for falling after looking well in control at Newcastle in November 2020.

The mount of Henry Brooke almost certainly needed her first run of the season at Newcastle last month and the daughter of Milan should strip much fitter with that run under her belt.

Lime Drop (NAP) – 3.20pm Sedgefield

Now racing off a mark some 20lb higher than when opening her account over hurdles at Worcester last November, the Henry Daly-trained Lime Drop is improving at such a rate that the handicapper may not have caught up with the daughter of Martaline just yet.

The mount of Tom O’Brien is now on a four-timer after victories at Leicester and Taunton followed that Worcester success and connections look to have found the perfect opportunity to keep that winning run going.

Joint top weight Alright Marlene won for the first time over hurdles at the ninth attempt at Catterick on New Year’s Day but will have her work cut out following up off level weights with Lime Drop. A bigger danger to the selection may come in the shape of the lightly raced Fleeting Blue who showed plenty of promise on just her second start over hurdles at Doncaster last month.
