The meeting at Wetherby in North Yorkshire provides the only National Hunt action on Friday afternoon. The track stages an interesting six-race card however for which we will supply today’s Horse Racing tips, previews and predictions.
Our first Horse Racing tip comes in the third race at 2.00pm, a 2m 5f handicap chase featuring a field of seven runners. At 2.35pm our second tip comes in the 2m handicap hurdle, part of the Go North Sea Pigeon Series Qualifier, followed by a seven-runner handicap chase run over 1m 7f at 3.05pm.
“Tip of the Day” – Relkadam – 3:05pm Wetherby
A winner over today’s course and distance off a 6lb higher mark last February, the Tim Easterby-trained Relkadam should get his head in front once again after finishing second to the improving Nocte Volatus on his most recent start.
Cooper’s Cross (NB) – 2:00 Wetherby
The Venetia Williams-trained Grand Turina is on a hat-trick here following victories at Lingfield and Warwick. At the age of 11 the mare is not getting any younger however and off a career-high mark of 120 the mount of Charlie Deutsch, who replaces 10lb claimer Ned Fox, may struggle to continue her winning run.
The ex French-trained Geryville has done nothing wrong in both of his starts since joining the Micky Hammond stable in October, making a winning debut on this course later that month before finding only Sidi Ismael too good, again at Wetherby, on his most recent outing.
Alain Cawley’s mount looks sure to run well again but on just his fourth start over fences, the unexposed Cooper’s Cross is fancied to continue his progression over the bigger obstacles.
The Stuart Coltherd-trained son of Getaway almost certainly needed his first run over fences when last of six at Sedgefield following a break of eight months. But the seven-year-old has looked a totally different proposition on his other two starts, winning at the County Durham racecourse before running Welsh raider Winds Of Fire close at Newcastle.
The mount of Sam Coltherd will be running off a mark only 4lb higher than when starting the season and on his fourth run in a chase is open to plenty more improvement.
Burnage Boy (Longshot) – 2:35pm Wetherby
The Susan Corbett-trained Wor Verge has hit a rich vein of form of late and bids to record a hat-trick of wins following victories at Newcastle and Kelso. On the nine-year-old’s thirty fourth start however the mount of Nathan Moscrop will need to produce a career best to take this 2m handicap hurdle.
The Milton Harris stable has enjoyed a decent season so far and the trainer’s Global Agreement must go well in receipt of a stone from Wor Verge. But at the foot of the handicap, the Micky Hammond-trained Burnage Boy makes plenty of each-way appeal in the hands of 7lb claimer Jack Hogan.
The six-year-old is yet to win in 10 attempts over hurdles but has finished runner-up on four occasions, twice this season at Sedgefield. On the gelding’s most recent start at Catterick, Burnage Boy finished fifth of the 17 runners in an amateur jockeys’ contest but was only beaten four lengths by the heavily gambled-on winner Pittsburg.
In receipt of plenty of weight from the two principles, the son of Footstepsinthesand can finally land that first so far elusive victory.
Relkadam (NAP) – 3:05pm Wetherby
Almost a year and ten defeats have passed since the Tim Easterby-trained Relkadam recorded the second of the gelding’s two career victories when running out an easy winner of a 10-runner handicap chase over today’s course and distance.
The six-year-old, now running off a 6lb lower mark and following a good second to an improver at Catterick towards the end of last month, the mount of 3lb claimer Nathan Moscrop should finally end that losing run in a race consisting mainly of out-of-form rivals.
Donladd showed plenty of promise over hurdles last season but beat only one horse home on his chasing debut at Hexham and is best watched at the moment. A bigger danger could come in the shape of top weight Boagrius who is unreliable but has the ability to go close if in the right mood.
