Day two of the Glorious Goodwood Festival on Wednesday features the Group 1 Qatar Sussex Stakes at 3.35pm. We will provide a Horse Racing tip, preview and prediction for this one mile contest (part of the British Champions Series), together with Horse Racing tips for the races taking place at 2.25pm and 3.00pm.
Our Tip for the 2.25pm at Goodwood:
An open renewal of this Group 3 contest for fillies and mares, in which most of the 17 runners can be given a chance, in particular Qipco 1000 Guineas seventh Sacred and the Amanda Perrett-trained Lavender’s Blue.
The horse who should take plenty of beating if running up to her best form however is Vadream, the mount of Jamie Spencer. The daughter of Brazen Beau has done little wrong this season, finishing third behind Alcohol Free in the Fred Darling before running fine races in the Qipco 1000 Guineas (sixth) and Royal Ascot’s Jersey Stakes (third).
Charlie Fellowes’ charge may not have been suited by dropping back to six furlongs at York last time (failed to get the best of runs) and a return to seven furlongs, on ground that should suit and with a decent draw in stall seven, is fancied to gain a well-deserved first victory of the season.
Our Tip for the 3.00pm at Goodwood:
The first, third, fifth and sixth horses home in Royal Ascot’s Windsor Castle Stakes take each other on again here, that Listed contest going the way of the Eve Johnson-Houghton-trained Chipotle. It is the horse who finished a two and three quarter length fifth, Armor, who looks the value to come out on top this time for trainer Richard Hannon whose father won the 5f juvenile race in 1993, 2009, 2010 and 2013.
An easy winner of a four-runner affair at Doncaster on his debut in April, the mount of Ryan Moore may have been caught out by his lack of experience at the royal meeting. The son of No Nay Never, with that run under his belt and with what could prove a decent draw in stall 11, is expected to improve significantly for his third career start.
Sandown’s Coral Dragon Stakes winner Fearby will prove a big danger if the mount of P J McDonald is equally at home on this quicker track, while Karl Burkes’ Kaboo is much better than his third place in that race would suggest.
Our Tip for the 3.35pm at Goodwood:
If Qipco 2000 Guineas winner Poetic Flare is in the same kind of form as when running out an impressive winner of Royal Ascot’s St James’s Palace Stakes last month the Jim Bolger-trained son of Dawn Approach is going to prove hard to beat.
The ground at Goodwood is likely to be very different to that encountered at the royal meeting however, so at a very short price the mount of Kevin Manning is worth taking on with an each-way value alternative.
The two fillies, Alcohol Free and Snow Lantern, could easily go close with their allowance while the Ballydoyle pair of Lope Y Fernandez and Order Of Australia are both respected. At a massive price however, the chances of French raider Dunhail may have been underestimated.
The genius that is Andre Fabre doesn’t send horses across the channel for the good of his health and while the Lope De Vega gelding has yet to win at this level, the race could be run to suit Jim Crowley’s mount who has finished second to in improving performer in Marianafoot the last twice (has now won six in a row).
Providing the five-year-old gets the breaks from his draw in stall 4, the Fabre challenger is capable of causing a major surprise.
