The Best Horse Racing Tips for Catterick on Monday

York’s Ebor festival takes centre stage this week with the action on the Knavesmire due to get underway on Wednesday. While in comparison, Catterick’s meeting on Monday is a long way removed from the class of thoroughbred we will see later in the week, it is to the North Yorkshire track we will go for today’s selections.

We will provide Horse Racing tips, previews and predictions for the races taking place at 1.45pm, 4.35pm and 5.08pm.

Our Tip for the 1.45pm at Catterick:

From his berth in stall one, the front-running Golden Rainbow is fancied to make all of the running in this six-runner nursery for trainer Archie Watson and jockey Hollie Doyle.

The son of Havana Gold has been sent off favourite for all of his four starts to date, recording one victory at Lingfield along with three runner-up spots. Second behind a decent juvenile in Navello on his debut at Brighton in April, Golden Rainbow should appreciate the return to turf after competing at Lingfield since then.

The selection should find this easier than when trying to concede 9lb to a fair horse in El Hadeeyah last month and can prove too speedy for main rivals Latin Lover, I’m A Gambler and Poppy Petal.

Our Tip for the 4.35pm at Catterick:

The in-form pair of Refuge and King Crimson will be expected to fight out the finish to this sprint handicap run over the minimum trip based on their recent form. However, the booking of Hollie Doyle takes the eye aboard the Andrew Crook-trained bottom weight Orchid Rose who looks fairly well treated off a lowly mark of only 48.

This will be the fillies’ eighth start on turf and while yet to trouble the judge the daughter of Mehmas has shown enough to suggest she is capable of winning this Class 6 handicap.

Beaten less than six lengths in a decent auction stakes here back in May, Ocean Rose produced her best effort to date a fortnight later when finishing a one length third in a 14-runner handicap at Ripon over today’s trip.

Two places further behind came the Ann Duffield-trained Arnold who gave the form a boost with a comfortable victory at Beverley last week. Newcastle’s all-weather surface probably didn’t suit the selection on her most recent start, but a repeat of her Ripon run would put Hollie Doyle’s mount in with a big chance.

Our Tip for the 5.08pm at Catterick:

Trainer Sir Mark Prescott is always to be feared when he sends one of his horses up north and top weight Genesius is sure to be fancied to take this amateur riders handicap under Luke Scott.

The four-year-old has a tough task under a big weight however, including a 5lb penalty for a narrow victory at Wolverhampton last week, and may struggle against recent Thirsk scorer The Dancing Poet, the mount of one of the best amateurs in the business in Simon Walker.

The Poet’s Voice gelding has an excellent record at Catterick with form figures reading 1-1-3, the most recent when beaten less than three lengths behind the bang-in-form Wise Eagle back in April.

That horse, following two subsequent victories at Musselburgh, is now rated some 13lb higher. The Dancing Poet is now racing off a mark 3lb lower than that fine effort over course and distance and looks sure to run another big race at the track.
