The Best Horse Racing Tips for Fontwell & Carlisle on Monday

Fontwell’s competitive eight-race card on Monday afternoon features five contests with double-figure fields, one of which we will provide a Horse Racing tip, preview and prediction for, the 3m 2f mares’ handicap chase at 4.10pm.

Over at Carlisle, today’s nap selection runs in the 2m 5f Ribble Mares’ Handicap Chase at 3.55pm, while our other selection at the Cumbrian track runs in division two of the extended 3m Class 5 handicap chase at 1.35pm which has attracted a field of nine runners.

“Tip of the Day” – Maid O’Malley – 3.55pm Carlisle

After several near misses over fences, the consistent mare finally came good with an easy victory at Wetherby recently and should follow-up here if in the same kind of form.

Morozov Cocktail (Next Best) – 1.35pm Carlisle

After looking very much in need of the run on his chasing debut at Wetherby towards the beginning of December, the Tim Easterby-trained Morozov Cocktail, with that run under his belt, returned to the West Yorkshire racecourse on Boxing Day and justified the support which saw the gelding being sent off the 7/2 joint favourite by running out a game half length winner.

Favourite at 6/4 to follow-up three weeks later, also at Wetherby, the son of Morozov failed to run up to that form in foggy conditions, a performance not helped by a serious blunder at the second-last fence. The lightly-raced chaser was much the best of these over hurdles, and in a very weak contest deserves another chance to prove that below-par effort to be all wrong. Space Safari, who fell at the third-last when going well on his chasing debut at Hexham in December looks the main danger despite racing from 5lb out of the handicap.

Maid O’Malley (NAP) – 3.55pm Carlisle

The Venetia Williams stable, fresh from a big-race double at Sandown on Saturday, is in irresistible form at the moment and many will expect her Grand Turina to keep the run going with a victory in this mares’ handicap chase.

With conditional jockey Ned Fox claiming a handy 10lb, the veteran 11-year-old has obvious claims. But the daughter of Kayf Tara beat only one horse home on her latest start and may have to settle for second place behind the Stuart Coltherd-trained Maid O’Malley.

After finishing second on four consecutive occasions over fences it appeared that the nine-year-old mare would always be destined to be the bridesmaid rather than the bride. But the daughter of Black Sam Bellamy proved the doubters wrong with a comfortable victory at Wetherby towards the end of last month.

The runner-up on that occasion, Lady Of The Night, was making her chasing debut and looks to be a fair prospect for the future, while the third horse was some 29 lengths further back. A similar effort from Sam Coltherd’s mount should make the mare very hard to beat.

The Toojumpa (Longshot) – 4.10pm Fontwell

Top weight Lilith is expected to make a bold bid from the front in this 3m 2f stamina test for mares. The mount of Rex Dingle, runner-up on her last two starts, looks sure to go close once again, along with Poniente from the in-form Venetia Williams stable. But on this occasion both may have to give best to the Fergal O’Brien-trained The Toojumpa.

The nine-year-old mare made a winning debut for new connections at Worcester last October but hasn’t enjoyed the best of luck in four subsequent starts. The mount of 3lb claimer Liam Harrison unseated her rider at both Chepstow and here at Hereford before just failing to catch winner Top And Drop at Wetherby over the Christmas period.

Not beaten far when fourth at Ludlow on her most recent start, the daughter of Midnight Legend is expected to go close in a race where few can be seriously fancied.
