The Best Horse Racing Tips for Newcastle on Friday

Newcastle’s ever-popular Friday evening meeting, which precedes the following day’s Northumberland Plate fixture, looks well up to the high standard we have come to expect. We will provide Horse Racing tips, previews and predictions for three races, including the big handicap of the evening, the 5f William Hill Gosforth Park Cup at 6.45pm.

We will also supply Horse Racing tips for the Group 3 William Hill Hoppings Fillies’ Stakes at 7.20pm and the concluding Sportvision Stadia And Event Branding Handicap at 8.55pm, run over 7f.

Our Tip for the 6.45pm at Newcastle:

Despite reaching the age of 12, the Michael Appleby-trained Caspian Prince still retains most of his blistering speed. And the mount of talented 3lb claimer Theodore Ladd is fancied to win back-to-back renewals of this popular sprint handicap.

The son of Dylan Thomas has won on his last two visits to Gosforth Park, in January 2018 and more recently when beating his 11 opponents, including several of today’s rivals, in this race 12 months ago.

Second on that occasion was top weight Venturous who reopposes on 13lb worse terms, while Ornate, Copper Knight and Lahore all finished further behind, although Tim Easterby’s charge enjoys a big pull with the winner and may prove the main danger along with stablemate Sunday Sovereign.

After a spell in Meydan during the winter, Caspian Prince took a couple of runs to recapture his form in Britain. But made no mistake on his most recent start when running out the comfortable winner of a Conditions Stakes at Beverley, a repeat of which would make the sprightly veteran hard to beat.

Our Tip for the 7.20pm at Newcastle:

The three-year-old fillies look set to dominate this Group 3 contest. Likely favourite is the Roger Varian-trained Cazoo Oaks 13th Zeyaadah, who should be better suited by this two furlong shorter trip and faster ground.

It is the William Haggas pair of Lilac Road and Sea Empress who make most appeal however, with preference for the latter, the mount of Cierenn Fallon and winner on her debut here when beating the highly-touted Teona with a decent field of maidens well strung out behind.

The daughter of Sea The Stars was slightly disappointing on her first start on turf, at Newbury last month. But the unexposed filly has since gone on to record an easy all-the-way victory at Chelmsford and can fulfil her undoubted potential by taking tonight’s feature contest.

Stablemate Lilac Road is rated some 4lb higher than Sea Empress following her excellent second to Godolphin’s Creative Flair at Newbury earlier this month and can follow her stable companion home.

Our Tip for the 8.55pm at Newcastle:

After losing out by just a neck in a 20-runner Redcar handicap earlier this month, a clear case can be made for the David Thompson-trained Martin’s Brig running a big race in this moderate Class 6 contest. The 57-rated gelding also has course form, having finished third here on his debut behind Lincoln runner-up Brunch who now runs off a mark of 104.

The mount of Paul Mulrennan is greatly respected but the booking of Tom Marquand for the ex Irish-trained Cap D’antibes takes the eye on his fifth start for current handler Michael Wigham.

The Society Rock gelding won on his second start for Wigham, in a Chelmsford handicap, before failing to get a clear run at Wolverhampton three weeks later. Back on an artificial surface following a fair run at Bath last time, Cap D’antibes looks up to winning a race of this nature.
