Horse Racing Tips: Pontefract & Exeter (Tuesday)

Pontefract and Bath stage the Flat turf Horse Racing action on Tuesday, while the sole jumps meeting is that of Exeter in Devon. We will provide Horse Racing tips for two races at the West Yorkshire venue and one from the national hunt racecourse.

The feature races at Pontefract are the 1m 2f Class 2 Go Racing In Yorkshire Handicap at 2.00pm, together with the following Class 3 Racing TV On Sky Channel 426 Handicap, run over 6f and due to take place at 2.30pm. We will supply Horse Racing tips for both contests along with Exeter’s 2m 7f handicap hurdle at 3.50pm.

Our Tip for the 2.00pm at Pontefract:

Northern trainer Tim Easterby is responsible for two of the six runners for this mile and a quarter handicap in Fishable and Highwaygrey. But the Great Habton handler faces a strong southern challenge in the shape of Waldkonig, Victory Chime, Louganini and Kaleidoscopic.

Best of the quartet could be the John & Thady Gosden-trained Waldkonig, a nine length winner at Wolverhampton on his only start as a juvenile. The top weight suffered defeats in both of his starts last season but the son of Frankel was unlucky to come up against a couple of high class colts in Mishriff and Highest Ground.

While the latter went on to be beaten just a neck in the Group 2 Dante Stakes at York, the former now has a rating of 122 following four victories, including the Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby). Waldkonig meets nothing of the calibre of those two horses here and off a mark of 101 should take plenty of beating on his first start in a handicap.

The main danger to Robert Havlin’s mount looks to be Louganini and jockey Hollie Doyle who went close to winning a valuable Newmarket handicap on their final outing of last season.

Our Tip for the 2.30pm at Pontefract:

Only seven runners but a wide-open six furlong three-year-old contest. Despite winning just two of his six starts as a juvenile, the Richard Fahey-trained Internationaldream ran some fine races in defeat, including when third in Goodwood’s Group 2 Molecomb Stakes last July.

While the mount of Connor Murtagh is respected, along with the other joint top weight Uncle Jumbo, it could be worth siding with Bickerstaffe, from the Karl Burke stable, who created a good impression when winning impressively on his two-year-old debut at Hamilton last September.

Sent off a well-backed 13/8 favourite to follow up in Ayr’s Listed Harry Rosebery Stakes on his only other run of 2020, the son of Mayson still looked green in finishing sixth and looks sure to make up into a decent three-year-old with that experience behind him. Course and distance winner Ballyconneely Bay is the other one to consider.

Our Tip for the 3.50pm at Exeter:

Following two solid runs over 2m 3f and 2m 5 1/2f respectively, the six-year-old Frankincense looks to be crying out for this step-up in trip and in what looks a poor contest, should win for the second time over the smaller obstacles.

After finishing a creditable fourth of 17 at Taunton on his penultimate start, when doing all of his best work in the closing stages of that 2m 3f handicap, the mount of 7lb claimer Miss Harriet Tucker went one place better at Wincanton last week.

With plenty to do at the halfway stage of that extended 2m 5f contest, the Chris Down-trained gelding stayed on strongly to be beaten just over six lengths by shock 125/1 winner Catchin Time. In what looks an easier race, and over and extra furlong and a half, the selection looks the one to beat.

Well beaten at Huntingdon last time when sent off at odds of 8/11,, Harry Skelton’s mount Midnight Aurora would be the main danger if reproducing his previous 12 length victory at Plumpton.
