The Best Horse Racing Tips for Royal Ascot on Thursday

Thursday is Gold Cup day at Royal Ascot, the famous Group 1 stamina test due to get underway at 4.15pm. We will provide a Horse Racing tip, preview and prediction for the 2m 4f contest which dates back to 1807.

We will also supply Horse Racing tips for the 1m 4f Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes, the third race on the card at 3.40pm, along with the 7f Buckingham Palace Stakes at 6.10pm, the final race on day three.

Our Tip for the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot:

Beaten three quarters of a length by highly regarded stablemate High Definition at the Curragh on his only outing as a juvenile, the Aidan O’Brien-trained Wordsworth, after winning his maiden back at the Curragh on his reappearance in April, just failed to hold off another stable companion in Sir Lucan on his most recent start at Navan.

That 1m 5f Listed race failed to show the son of Galileo at his very best, with the winner’s superior finishing pace proving the deciding factor. On this occasion, with a field of 15 and a possible pacemaker in the race, the mount of Ryan Moore can enhance his St Leger prospects (14/1 with bet365) before developing into a serious Gold Cup contender for next year.

In a renewal which looks destined to go to an Irish-trained runner, Ruling and Taipan can make the frame, especially with most bookmakers going four or even five places.

Our Tip for the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot:

Stradivarius bids to join Yeats as the only horses to win this great race, which dates back to 1807, on four occasions. The son of Sea The Stars is the obvious answer to the outcome of this Group 1 stamina test. But whether Frankie Dettori’s mount represents anything in the way of value at around 5/6 is open to question.

The progressive pair of Subjectivist and Trueshan would appear to be the main dangers to the seven-year-old market leader. But it would be no surprise to see something at a big price make the frame (some bookmakers going 4 places) and at around 33/1 the chance of the Joseph O’Brien-trained Twilight Payment may have been underestimated.

The Teofilo gelding gave his handler a second Melbourne Cup last November, doing it the hard way by making all of the running. The decent ground and two mile trip clearly brought out the best in the eight-year-old who could be even better over this extra half a mile.

The mount of Tom Marquand was a promising third over an inadequate 1m 2f behind Broome on his reappearance before occupying the same position in the Saval Beg behind fellow rival Emperor Of The Sun.

While the gelding clearly wasn’t at his best last time, the expected faster conditions and longer trip should see Twilight Payment in a much better light and the outsider is fancied to outrun his odds.

Our Tip for the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot:

Following a less than spectacular first run of the season when finishing sixth of ten at Redcar in April, the then 75-rated Boardman has proved a revelation in winning his three most recent starts without turning a hair, earning a new mark of 96 in the process.

The five-year-old has clearly inherited plenty of the ability of his sire Kingman and the mount of David Allen could land the four-timer in this valuable contest before the handicapper finally catches up with the Tim Easterby-trained contender.

With a maximum field of 29 for this seven furlong contest on the straight course, Boardman is not going to have things as easy as has been the case of late with a plethora of potential dangers for the day’s finale.

The unexposed three-year-old Aldaary could go well. But it is another couple of northern raiders who are feared most, in the shape of the David O’Meara-trained Shelir and Bielsa from the Kevin Ryan stable.
