The Best Horse Racing Tips for Sedgefield on Tuesday

The Cheltenham Festival is not the only National Hunt meeting taking place on Tuesday afternoon and as a bit of light relief from the full-on action at Prestbury Park we will provide horse racing tips, previews and predictions for three races on the card at Sedgefield in County Durham.

The three races in question are those taking place at 3.10pm, 3.50pm and 4.30pm.

“Tip of the Day” – Powerful Position (4.30pm Sedgefield) – 11/10 with Totesport*

An easy winner over today’s course and distance last month, Christian Williams’ improving chaser should have no trouble following-up off a 6lb higher mark.

3.10pm Sedgefield. 2m 3 1/2f

The front-running Soivegotachance is interesting here on the gelding’s chasing debut following a decent run over hurdles at Carlisle recently. The seven-year-old could make a bold bid from the front if taking to the fences.

Bottom weight ONENIGHTINTOWN will be racing from 5lb out of the handicap. But it could be worth taking a chance with the mount of 3lb claimer Miss Becky Smith after the gelding’s promising run at Catterick earlier in the month.

The eight-year-old ran a couple of decent races at Market Rasen last year off higher marks and looked a big danger to the in-form Da Vinci Hand at the North Yorkshire racecourse last time until failing to make any impression on the winner close home. A similar performance could see Micky Hammond’s charge go close in this modest novices’ handicap chase.

3.50pm Sedgefield. 2m 1f

Top weight Purple King is expected to be a warm order for this 2m 1f handicap hurdle following the gelding’s 10 length victory at Sandown last week. Jockey Cillin Leonard’s 5lb claim negates part of the 7lb penalty Dr Richard Newland’s charge has to carry. But it is more than possible that the son of Lope De Vega was flattered at the Esher track with several rivals appearing to run well below form.

The dark horse here is very much the Oliver Greenall-trained MONTE IGUELDO who was backed as if defeat was out of the question at Catterick recently only to be pulled-up due to an irregular heartbeat.

Providing there is no repeat of that medical issue, the mount of Craig Nichol should be up to winning on his handicap debut with a reasonable mark of 112, based on some promising efforts in novice hurdles.

4.30pm Sedgefield. 3m 3f

This looks to be a perfect opportunity for the Christian Williams-trained POWERFUL POSITION to record a hat-trick of wins and the seven-year-old’s fourth success from eight starts over fences.

Following two wins at Ffos Las this season, the mount of talented 3lb claimer Jack Tudor had little trouble in taking a similar contest over today’s course and distance last month. A rise of 6lb is unlikely to prevent the Mahler gelding from following-up, at the main expense of Dr Richard Newland’s Wigglesworth.
