The meetings at Yarmouth and Sandown stage competitive Listed races on Wednesday. We will provide Horse Racing tips, previews and predictions for both contests, Yarmouth’s 1m 2f EBF John Musker Stallions Fillies’ Stakes at 2.15pm and Sandown’s 1m Chasemore Farm Fortune Stakes at 3.30pm.
We will also supply a Horse Racing tip for Yarmouth’s 3.50pm race, a competitive 12-runner one mile handicap.
Our Tip for the 2.15pm at Yarmouth:
Fourth in the Group 1 Nassau Stakes prior to going down narrowly in a similar race to this at Salisbury, the Martyn Meade-trained Technique sets the standard in this Listed fillies’ race. If Gloria Mundi, disappointing on her last two outings, was to reproduce her narrow second to the classy Eshaada at Newbury back in May, the mount of Ray Dawson would be a danger to all.
But such was the impression created by the handicap victory of Sweet Believer at Hamilton towards the end of last month that the daughter of Make Believe could well prove up to Group class come the end of the season.
The mount of Tom Marquand’s only defeat in her last four starts came at Redcar where, after being hampered at the start, Sweet Believer just failed to peg back all-the-way winner Ulshaw Bridge. On ratings, the selection has a few pounds to find with several of her rivals but looks a filly with plenty of improvement yet to come.
Our Tip for the 3.30pm at Sandown:
Most of the ten runners for this Listed race have been kept on the go all season, one of the few exceptions being the John & Thady Gosden-trained Mostahdaf who will be having his first race since beating only one horse home in the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The son of Frankel had looked an exciting prospect prior to the royal meeting, winning all three starts including Sandown’s Listed Heron Stakes in May. On the face of it the colt’s finishing position at Royal Ascot, twelfth of thirteen behind Poetic Flare, would appear disappointing. But the form book tells only part of the story.
The mount of Jim Crowley was making headway against the far rail approaching the last two furlongs only to be badly hampered, after which Mostahdaf was allowed to come home in his own time. Back to the scene of his most impressive win to date, Mostahdaf deserves another chance to prove himself up to Group class.
Sir Busker, from the William Knight stable, is always to be feared at this level and looks the main danger to Mostahdaf. Best of those at a bigger price may be Escobar who looked a little unlucky not to win at Goodwood last time.
Our Tip for the 3.50pm at Yarmouth:
A wide-open three-year-old handicap in which many of the 12 runners can be given a chance, in particular the hat-trick-seeking Arcadian Nights. However, the each-way value bet of the race may be the ex Jamie Osborne inmate Eyes, who joined trainer Jessica Macey earlier this year.
The Dandy Man filly has been placed on her last three starts, all at Yarmouth, and went closest over today’s distance when losing out by the narrowest of margins last month with fellow rival Epic Express well back in third place.
The mount of Lewis Edmunds looks capable of winning a race off her current mark of 56 and at the very least should make the frame once again.
