The feature race in Britain on Wednesday afternoon is Salisbury’s Listed 1m 2f Upavon Fillies’ Stakes at 4.15pm.
We will provide a Horse Racing tip, preview and prediction for this nine-runner contest, along with two other races on the card, a 1m handicap at 3.40pm and at 4.50pm a competitive 1m 2f handicap for horses that have not won a flat race in 2021.
Our Tip for the 3.40pm at Salisbury:
After landing a hat-trick of victories, starting with a Kempton handicap in May off a mark of 67, the Charles Hills-trained Ariel looks in the grip of the handicapper now racing off a rating of 84, 3lb higher than when losing out narrowly at Doncaster on the gelding’s most recent start.
The one horse in this six-runner field who has the potential to prove much better than his current mark of 83 however, is the unexposed Sevenal who will be having just his fifth start, the first since being gelding after a disappointing effort at Nottingham in June.
The son of Sea The Stars opened his account in a minor Windsor contest before that Nottingham run, where the undulations of the course were deemed to have unsuited the horse. This track and the expected cut in the ground should see Sevenal in a much better light in what looks a very winnable handicap.
Our Tip for the 4.15pm at Salisbury:
Seventh place in Royal Ascot’s Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes could be considered a slightly disappointing effort from the John & Thady Gosden-trained Gloria Mundi considering the daughter of Galileo had previously lost out by a neck to unlucky Ribblesdale runner-up Eshaada on her previous start.
That below-par run at the royal meeting was just the third career start for the promising filly, who pulled too hard for her own good under Frankie Dettori before weakening inside the final furlong. Providing jockey Robert Havlin can get his mount to settle better on this occasion, Gloria Mundi is fancied to continue her progression with a victory in this Listed contest.
The Martyn Meade-trained Technique is the highest rated runner in the race. But the Mastercraftsman filly has yet to win in five runs this season and may have been flattered by her fourth place in Goodwood’s Group 1 Nassau Stakes last time. A bigger danger to Gloria Mundi may be Lady Hayes from the Roger Varian stable who ran a fine race to beat all bar the talented Alpinista in the Lancashire Oaks last time.
Our Tip for the 4.50pm at Salisbury:
On just his fourth start and first in a handicap, the lightly-raced Modestus could easily prove much better than his exposed rivals in this modest Class 5 handicap for horses that have not won a race in 2021.
Ryan Moore’s mount is unlikely to offer anything in the way of value however, unlike the Roger Teal-trained Marion’s Boy who looks the each-way bet of the race at a double-figure price.
The Mastercraftsman gelding has done nearly all of his racing at Newbury or on Lingfield’s all-weather surface. While the mount of Jack Mitchell seems better on an artificial surface the four-year-old is now running off the same mark as when recording his only victory to date at Lingfield last November.
Beaten just over five lengths in an amateur riders contest on his most recent start, Marion’s Boy looked to be travelling best of all until failing to quicken when short of room inside the last couple of furlongs and is more than capable of winning a moderate race of this nature.
