Wednesday’s racing is more of the bread and butter variety. But the North Yorkshire racecourse at Catterick stages a competitive eight-race card and we will provide Horse Racing tips, previews and predictions for three of the races taking place.
The opening juvenile maiden stakes at 1.00pm has attracted a decent field of 14 runners. We will supply a Horse Racing tip for this 5f contest together with a Class 3 six furlong handicap at 2.30pm, and at 3.00pm another nine-runner handicap also run over 6f.
Our Tip for the 1.00pm at Catterick:
With the exception of Lady Raeburn all of the form horses are drawn high in this juvenile contest run over the minimum trip. The Karl Burke-trained Silkie Wilkie has finished second on all three starts to date and Sam James’ mount may have to settle for a minor placing once again as the colt has to concede weight to all of his rivals.
Raydoun, from the Roger Fell stable, has posted a couple of excellent runs to date, at Newcastle and Thirsk, and looks sure to go well with claimer Bradley Harris taking 7lb off. However, the 5lb claim of the talented Pierre Louis-Jamin may tip the balance in favour of the Ed de Giles-trained Macon Belle.
The Due Diligence filly has finished runner-up on her two starts, both at Bath, showing plenty of early speed on each occasion. The winners of those races, Torvi and Minnamoolka, may turn out to be pretty decent and Macon Belle can open her account over this slightly shorter trip.
Our Tip for the 2.30pm at Catterick:
A winner on the course last October over 7f, the Roger Fell-trained Erich Bloch is equally effective over this furlong shorter trip and off a mark of 78 the five-year-old gelding looks the value bet to open his account for the season with conditions to suit.
Runner-up to the selection in that October contest was fellow rival Praxeology, an easy winner on Southwell’s all-weather surface recently, but David Loghnane’s charge will do well to reverse that form on 4lb worse terms.
Second to Praxeology at Southwell back in April, Paul Hanagan’s mount is much better off at the weights here and will appreciate this furlong shorter trip on a course that suits. Of the rest, consistent bottom weight Obee Jo can make the frame once again.
Our Tip for the 3.00pm at Catterick:
Despite having to shoulder a 5lb penalty for winning at Carlisle last week over today’s distance, the Michael Dods-trained Motawaazy should take plenty of beating in this six furlong handicap.
The son of Kingman has been a model of consistency this season finishing out of the first three only once in eight starts. Even then, the five-year-old was only a length and a quarter behind winner Distinction when fourth at Ayr earlier this month.
The mount of Tom Eaves has recorded two wins this year, both coming at Catterick over an extra furlong. The gelding is equally effective over this shorter trip however and is clearly the one they all have to beat. Sfumato runs well here and should make the frame, while the inconsistent Paddy Power would be a danger to all if in the right mood.
