5:00pm Windsor - Antipodes (Nap)

The lightly raced ANTIPODES (Nap) has the worst of the draw in the mile handicap but can make a winning reappearance having been off the track since scoring over course and distance at the end of June.

That was just his third career start, and Roger Varian suggested in a recent Racing Post Stable Tour that:

"We don't really know how good he is, but he has potential and could be progressive this year. He won't be ready to run until May, but he could be a nice horse to progress into those better handicaps. He's been gelded and will start back at a mile."

He doesn't look exactly thrown in from an opening mark of eighty-eight, but he has been gelded over the winter and is entitled to improve this term. His win came on fast ground, and he finished a head second to the 94-rated Sea Force on just his second start.

Asmen Warrior is dropping back down in distance to a mile for the first time since his racecourse, but is worth a try at a mile, and I would not want to see Silvestre De Sousa get a freebie on the lead. He is well worth a try at a mile, but Antipodes is unexposed and, if he had a decent draw, would have been a confident selection.

Recommendation: Antipodes (Nap)

4:15pm Leicester - Mythical Bird

MYTHICAL BIRD has only raced twice on turf, and she has pulled up few trees, but I was impressed with her recent Lingfield success, and I hope she can maintain that improvement back on turf, although her breeding suggests she is always likely to be a better filly on a synthetic surface.

The form of that Lingfield fillies' handicap success was given a boost when the second Ammoony won at Redcar last week, and connections have stumbled upon a very winnable turf race, although she is 8lbs higher this afternoon. Hollie Doyle is currently sidelined, so David Probert takes over in the plate for Hughie Morrison, who has had two winners from his last four runners.

It is possible that she is just an all-weather horse, but her half-brother Mr Mistoffelees went on turf – although he was a better all-weather performer – and I vowed to follow the selection after Lingfield, although I appreciate I would have preferred this to be a race on an artificial surface.

Hamadhan ran well without being knocked about at Chester on his first start for Jennie Candlish. He cost connections 24k and may need more time to acclimatise, but he is lightly raced, and I thought he ran with lots of promise on the Roodeye. A check of the market is advised.

Recommendation: Mythical Bird

2:35pm Huntingdon - Knighton

Le Gentleman did us a favour at Bangor-on-Dee for Oliver Greenall and Joash Guerriero on Saturday, and I was kicking myself – especially after the Haydock abandonments which took away two selections – for not recommending the yard's Ki Woo at Cartmel. The stable could not be in better form.

The yard's four-year-old KNIGHTON receives 6lbs weight-for-age from his elders in the 2m handicap hurdle and is taken to go one better than when runner-up at Ludlow on handicap debut. He is 2lbs lower in the weights, but I thought he ran into a well handicapped horse in Fouroneohfever, although the latter has subsequently disappointed.

The son of Farhh only raced once on the flat but ran to a good level of form when second in a Maiden over a mile and a half. He wore a hood for two of his novice hurdles, but the aid was left off at the Shropshire track. He is not bred to be a hurdler, although his dam is the sister to a hurdle winner.

The other juvenile in the field, Hellion, showed ability on the flat for Brian Meehan but has shown little in three starts over timber for Donald McCain. An application of cash would be significant in such a poor race, but I thought Knighton, who has changed owners since last seen in March, would take the beating next time, and he gets the vote.

Recommendation: Knighton
