3:00pm Fontwell - A Little Something

A LITTLE SOMETHING jumped well when coming home clear in a weak three-runner Stratford event last time. She only beat one rival – the other fell at halfway - but had finished runner-up in her two previous chase starts and is the one to beat for Emma Lavelle. The winning margin at Stratford was given as ninety-nine lengths; why not call it the round hundred?

The handicapper has left the mare on the same mark for her Midlands romp, and good ground is essential for the seven-year-old who finished second at Plumpton over hurdles over this trip – good ground – but promises to be a better chaser than hurdler.

Conditions were described as a mix of good and good to soft on Tuesday morning, with showers forecast, although the heaviest of the rain on raceday is due to hit the track after three o'clock. Good to soft is just about ok for the mare, but no worse.

The top-weight Doctor Glide had some useful hurdle form in Ireland but lost his way over fences and showed next to nothing over hurdles for Tim Vaughan. He has won his last couple on fast ground between the flags, but his best firm over timber was on soft.

On genuine good ground, A Little Something would be a confident selection, but I will be on weather watch.

Recommendation: A Little Something - 6/5 with Ladbrokes

3:30pm Fontwell - Almuhit (Nap)

Granny Hawkins is in the form of her life and easily landed her hat-trick at Stratford last time despite being badly hampered at the third from a 6lbs lower mark. She needs good ground, and any further rain is a concern for Alan King's seven-year-old, who holds an entry at Market Rasen on Friday.

ALMUHIT (Nap) finished fourth in a valuable 2m3f+ Punchestown handicap when last seen over timber back in April under Harry Cobden, who keeps the ride for Faye Bramley. The seven-year-old had finished second in the corresponding race last year from a 4lbs lower mark and had obviously been targeted at the race by connections.

He disappointed on the level at Thirsk last time, but that was a hot 2m handicap, and this looks an ideal opportunity to take advantage of what looks an attractive mark over timber. He gets further than this near 2m2f trip over hurdles and would also appreciate good ground, but he copes with soft, has been dropped 1lb since his last run over hurdles, and Cobden keeps the ride.

Recommendation: Almuhit (Nap) - 7/4 with bet365

4:30pm Fontwell - Kylenoe Dancer

KYLENOE DANCER has been pulled out of three races since she scored over course and distance on good ground here last May from a 7lbs lower mark. On each occasion of her withdrawals, the ground was described as good, although she was also withdrawn from a race earlier in her career on soft ground.

It is hard to know what conditions connections believe she needs, but she ran well at Worcester on good ground last time when third – beaten two-and-a-half lengths from a 1lb lower mark. She has run well on soft ground in the past, and the ground at Worcester was run in a time which suggested conditions were nearer good to soft.

The Bailey/Nicholls yard do not have too many runners in the summer, but they remain in good form, and this mare has only had two starts since winning here last May. She remains open to further improvement. Tom Bellamy was in the plate at Worcester last month, and he keeps the ride.

Kate's Choice is only 4lbs higher than when scoring over this trip at Ffos Las (good to soft) last time and looks the chief threat. That said, a market move for either Our Brother John – a beaten favourite in his last two points but has one piece of form over hurdles, which gives him a chance – and/or handicap debutant Maestrow – wouldn't be the first from the yard to grow a leg once sent handicapping – would be worth noting.

The four-year-old Maestrow is also stepping up in distance on his handicap debut, but really has shown next to nothing so far, although he is out of a point winner and from the family of Nick Dundee.

Recommendation: Kylenoe Dancer - 13/2 with bet365
