1.35pm Haydock - Bold Endeavour (Each Way)
Nicky Henderson and Harry Cobden team up with the 7-year-old BOLD ENDEAVOUR (EW) who looks a solid each-way proposition in this 3m Handicap Hurdle to kick things off at Haydock on Saturday.
The Seven Barrows representative has been in good form since reverting back to Hurdles, producing a staying-on fifth in the Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival and then running a belter at the same venue last month when runner-up off top weight. I think this step back up to 3m could easily unlock more improvement and it’s not hard to see him getting in the shake-up from an each-way point of view.
2.25pm Lingfield - Sacred
SACRED looks the standout pick on the figures, and she can land the spoils in this Group 3 event for the Ryan Moore and William Haggas combination. Officially rated 113, she sets the standard, and is very much at home over this niche trip of 7f, from which she has won three times.
She was last seen finishing runner-up in Group 2 company, and has an excellent record when fresh, so coming here on the back of a 218 day layoff shouldn’t be an issue. With her fully revved up for this, she can take all the beating in those famous Cheveley Park silks.
2.40pm Ascot - Fresh (Each Way)
The Victoria Cup is a competitive affair as you would expect, with the 6-year-old FRESH (EW) holding outstanding claims in this 7f Handicap. He has two wins and two placed efforts from the 5 starts over C&D, and wasn’t beaten far at all when fourth in this race 12 months ago.
He’s back on the same mark as when last successful, and has proven in the past that he can handle testing underfoot conditions, so there are no fears on that front. A recent spin around Kempton will have him nicely tuned up for today and he merits plenty of respect for the in-form James Fanshawe team.
2.45pm Haydock - Creative Force
This looks like the perfect opportunity for CREATIVE FORCE to bounce back to winning ways. James Doyle takes the ride on the 5-year-old for the Charlie Appleby team and the horse is a class act on his day. He won the Champion Sprint at Ascot in 2021, and was placed three times at the top level last season, including when beaten just a neck in the Jubilee at Royal Ascot.
On his seasonal reappearance at Newmarket he looked a bit sluggish and as though he would strip a lot fitter for the outing when only managing to come third in the Abernant Stakes. He gets a 4lb pull at the weights here with Commanche Falls who was one place ahead of him last time out, and on these terms is the one to beat.
