2.25pm Uttoxeter - Wild About Oscar (Each Way)
WILDE ABOUT OSCAR (EW) is a little bit of an enigma, but is an unblemished two from two at Uttoxeter, and has to be taken seriously in the 2.25 race. Harry and Dan Skelton team up. The 8-year-old has been in the doldrums in recent times, but will love underfoot conditions, and looks well treated off an official mark of 136.
Funnily enough his last win came on this card two years ago, when winning over 2m4f off a BHA rating of 146. Off a 10lb lower mark he has the tools to get back to winning ways in a race which has a fairly wide-open feel to it.
2.40pm Kempton - Mister Fisher (Each Way)
MISTER FISHER (EW) has had a rubbish season to date, but has the opportunity to bounce back to winning ways returning to Kempton Park. He has a record of three wins from five starts over fences at the Sunbury venue, with a win on his only start over C&D. His two flops you can make valid excuses for - one was in a King George, and the other was last time out in a Grade 2 over the minimum trip on unsuitably testing ground.
It was noticed in the aftermath that there was an issue with his wind, so has undergone the relevant operation since then to correct the issue. On the basis the ground isn’t riding too deep, the 9-year-old has eased to a mark of 146, and as a consequence looks extremely well treated. He gets the nod from me and is backable at an each-way price.
3.35pm Uttoxeter - Iron Bridge (Each Way)
Uttoxeter’s 3.35 can see IRON BRIDGE (EW) defy top weight and a mark of 137. Connections weighed up whether to let him take his chance at the Cheltenham Festival, but swerved the temptation and opted for this assignment instead.
Iron Bridge absolutely loves soft ground, so it is a case of the more rain the merrier for the 7-year-old. He has to shoulder a big weight, but he will be happy with underfoot conditions and this unexposed individual can add to his two wins over fences so far. I would be surprised if the assessor has got to him yet, and stamina is very much his forte.
4.55pm Fontwell - Alkopop
Over at Fontwell, I like the look of the Toby Lawes trained ALKOPOP who “cant have the ground soft enough” according to his handler. He has two wins at the Sussex venue on his CV, and was just settling down into a nice rhythm until he made a mess of the 7th fence at this track last time out and departed.
Eased to a mark of 110 he is on the same mark as when last successful, and with underfoot conditions looking as though they will suit him, he looks the value call in this contest. Caoilin Quinn claims a valuable 5lb which is also a great benefit.
