Ed Quigley: Weekend Watch Betting Tips - Derby Day at Epsom

Ed has four selections for Epsom Downs on Saturday afternoon.

Epsom 3.20 - Mokaatil (Each Way)

This will be fast and furious, and I wouldn’t rule out a big run from course specialist MOKAATIL (EW) for the Ian Williams stable.

The veteran sprinter won this race in 2021 and wasn’t beaten far 12 months ago when fourth off a 2lb higher mark. He looks fairly handicapped and we know he comes alive at this venue, as three wins at the track from just five visits would testify.

The headgear goes back on, and I think he holds solid each-way claims in the annual cavalry charge which is the dash.

Epsom 3.55 - Promoter (Each Way)

The Ralph Beckett team are in fine fettle at present, and PROMOTER could improve massively now stepping up in trip to 10f.

There is plenty of stamina on the dam’s side, and I think he could really come into his own over this distance. He fluffed the start at Chester last time out, something you can rarely get away with, but especially around a tight track like the Roodee.

Faster ground poses a different question here, but if anything I think he will improve for it, and has eased to a mark of 89. As far as each-way bets go, he looks a generous price with Rob Hornby taking the ride on the son of Showcasing.

Epsom 4.30pm - Caius Chorister

CAIUS CHORISTER has a terrific record at Epsom. Ryan Moore comes in for the ride on the filly who has form figures at the track of 112, and an unblemished record over this trip.

She ran a stormer when runner-up here last time out and will be suited by stepping back up in distance here. She looks the value call for the David Menusier team.

Epsom 5.05 - Mr Wagyu

This can go the way of last year’s winner MR WAGYU. The 8-year-old has been bubbling under in recent times, but this will have been the target for some time, and will be cherry ripe for this.

Drawn in stall 11, everything looks in place for another big run from the John Quinn runner. Jason Hart takes the ride and it would be disappointing if they weren’t involved at the business end of proceedings.
