2.25pm Cheltenham - Protektorat
PROTEKTORAT, who won the Betfair Chase in great style when last seen, should take some beating in the Cotswold Chase. Dan Skelton has his string in fine fettle at the moment, and last season’s Gold Cup third is the class act. I think he should just have too much for his five rivals.
Grand National winner Noble Yeats, showed a great turn of foot in the closing stages to land the Many Clouds at Aintree. He looks the biggest threat on paper but will have to prove he can bring his best form to the table and prove that he can do it away from a flat track.
3.00pm Cheltenham - Paisley Park
A legend of the Staying hurdle scene, PAISLEY PARK goes in search of his fourth win in the Cleeve Hurdle and should take a lot of beating. I expect him to take all the beating in a race which, in my view, doesn’t have a great deal of strength and depth.
The 11-year-old is partnered once again by Aidan Coleman who can win this en route to having another crack at the Stayers’ Hurdle in March. The joker in the pack could be Gelino Bello, as this unexposed Paul Nicholls representative reverts back to Hurdles after falling over Fences at Kempton last month.
4.10pm Cheltenham - Hystery Bere
In the final race on the card I think this could go the way of the Tom Symonds trained HYSTERY BERE who lurks at the bottom of the weights.
He is officially 2lb out of the handicap, but Jordan Nailor claims 3lb to offset that, and I think the combination have each-way possibilities in a wide-open encounter. He was third in this race 12 months ago on Good ground, and conditions should be much more in his favour here.
3.15pm Doncaster - Ga Law
Doncaster hosts a cracking day of action, and in particular I am looking forward to the Sky Bet Chase, a race which I think can go the way of the Jamie Snowden trained GA LAW.
He won the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham in November and can show even more improvement now upped to 3m for the first time. The yard have been in sparkling form all season, and this lightly-raced 7-year-old can defy top weight and an official mark of 150.
Naas on Sunday
Elsewhere, at Naas on Sunday, my National Hunt Chase Antepost selection, Chemical Energy runs in order to qualify for the race at the Cheltenham Festival. Fingers crossed for a clear round and a nice performance from our 14/1 pick for glory in March.
Enjoy your weekend!
