Ted’s Trixie - Royal Ascot Thursday

We are set for a sparkling day of action at Royal Ascot, as the veteran superstar Stradivarius goes in search of his fourth Ascot Gold Cup. The roof will come off the stand if he can manage it, and without any vested interest I will be cheering him on in his pursuit for glory.

2.30pm Royal Ascot

To kick off the Trixie, I am sticking with my 12/1 ante post selection for Freebets.com, and that is WALBANK to get the job done in the Norfolk Stakes and get the day off to a great start.

He wasn’t cheap at 525,000gns, but fairly bolted up on the Knavesmire last time out, and looks to have serious gears. It was a minor contest he won, but when he stuck on the afterburners, they didn’t see which way he went as he came home to score by 7 lengths.

Quick ground will suit this speedy sort, and he holds major claims with Rossa Ryan in the saddle – Walbank looks a very smart prospect.

3.05pm Royal Ascot

In the King George Stakes I think the wonderfully named TEUMESSIAS FOX is overpriced. The Andrew Balding representative bolted up at Newcastle in March, and after a disappointing run at Epsom (didn’t appear to handle the track), he ran a good race when runner-up at Salisbury last time against an unexposed sort.

Everything I have seen from Teumessias Fox suggests that going up in distance will unlock more improvement. Off a mark of 84, this big field scenario should really help him and I wouldn’t be shocked if he ran a stormer for a yard that have already tasted success at this year’s meeting. Rob Hornby takes the ride on the son of Lope De Vega who is my each-way play here.

3.40pm Royal Ascot

Finally, in the Ribblesdale I think this can go the way of William Haggas trained SEA SILK ROAD.

The daughter of Sea The Stars made it two wins on the bounce when staying on strongly to win a Listed contest at Goodwood last time out. She appeared to enjoy the step up in trip to 10f on that occasion, and looking at her pedigree and running style, this extra distance should be even more in her favour.

Tom Marquand is on board and she has the credentials to make up into a top class filly.

Advice

  • Walbank, 2pts win 2.30 Ascot
  • Teumessias Fox, 0.5pts e/w 3.05 Ascot
  • Sea Silk Road, 1pt win 3.40 Ascot
