Kell Brook seeks successful Sheffield ring return in Sergey Rabchanka clash

After suffering the first two defeats of his career, Kell Brook (36-2, 25 KOs) returns to the ring this weekend in search of a momentous victory over latest challenger Sergey Rabchanka (29-2, 22 KOs).

The Yorkshireman tasted his maiden loss at the hands of middleweight kingpin Gennady Golovkin back in September 2016, being viciously stopped in five rounds.

A consecutive setback then occurred in May last year, as welterweight star Errol Spence Jr halted him in the 11th round of their meeting on home soil.

Britain's Kell Brook

Brook endured brutal eye injuries in light of both defeats but is seeking a triumphant comeback this Saturday night at the FlyDSA Arena in Sheffield.

The former 147lbs world champion will enter his first fight in 10 months as the odds-on 1/14 favourite with Betfred to prevail and overturn his previous poor fortunes.

Meanwhile, Belarusian fighter Rabchanka is also seeking a change in form, coming into this bout on the back of a defeat, and he is a massive 10/1 outsider with Betfair to spring a surprise on his UK travels.

Brook aiming to set up Amir Khan meeting with winning comeback

Amir Khan has long been tipped as a future opponent for Brook, with the pair of British fighters having outlined intentions of squaring off for some time.

With Khan now under the same Matchroom Boxing stable as Brook with Eddie Hearn, that bout looks to be edging closer, whether fans want to see it or not.

Only an impressive victory will likely lead down that route, though, and Brook is seen at a promising 6/4 with William Hill to halt his latest foe inside rounds 7-12.

Kell Brook

The Sheffield native has busted both his eye sockets in those two most-recent defeats to hard-hitting duo ‘GGG’ and Spence Jr, and it’s unclear yet whether they will hold up to further damage this time out.

Rabchanka’s best chance of causing an upset will be to capitalise on this and target that area, by putting pressure on the home hope and force some doubts into his own mind over those past injuries.

The 32-year-old challenger is 16/1 with Paddy Power to hand Brook a third successive KO defeat, one which would potentially see his career come to an abrupt end.

Brook is odds-on 8/13 with BetVictor to secure a knockout victory, while he is also 6/4 to rally to a decision win in front of his own home supporters.

The dethroned champion lost his IBF crown to Spence Jr last year, while also suffering a broken left orbital bone, but he is aiming to set up another high-profile match-up with Khan with a returning success this weekend.

On the undercard in Sheffield, there’s also an intriguing British clash between Gamal Yafai (14-0, 7 KOs) and Gavin McDonnell (18-1-2, 5 KOs), while David Allen (12-3-1, 9 KOs) goes in search of rematch revenge against Lenroy Thomas (22-4, 10 KOs).
