We’re backing Kylemore Lough and Asthuria for today’s Easter races at Fairyhouse.

The Fairyhouse Easter Festival racegoers will be treated to Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Don Cossack parading before racing and Sunday’s two tips come from the pair of Grade 1 races on the top class card of jumping action.

At 4:15pm an interesting eight-runner Ryanair Gold Cup Novice Chase takes place and the Willie Mullins trained Outlander is the likely warm favourite on a revival mission having fallen in the JLT Novices Chase at the Cheltenham Festival last week. Kerry Lee has enjoyed a phenomenal first season since taking over the license from her father and her KYLEMORE LOUGH could be the one to floor the favourite and land a blow for the British raiding party.

Kylemore Lough is on a sharp upward curve and has won his last four races, the first of which from a handicap at Uttoxeter back in November from a mark of 132. He followed up from a mark of 145 the following month in equally emphatic style and again at Haydock in February on heavy ground. Last time out at Sandown he delivered again, winning a handicap by eight lengths from a mark of 151 in a good time and proving himself to be a most likeable individual.

This seven-year-old has a keen liking for soft underfoot conditions and the “Yielding” description at Fairyhouse on Sunday should be just about OK for the horse. A repeat of either of his last two performances would make him a hard horse to beat and although Outlander is respected, this is something of an afterthought target and Kylemore Lough is the more agreeable option with Barry Geraghty booked for the ride.

In the earlier 3:05pm Grade 1 Mares Novice Championship Final, it is a clear and intriguing vote of confidence that Willie Mullins runs ASTHURIA in this company on her Irish racecourse debut. A two-race maiden in France, she comes her with a good reputation and carries the colours of Hurricane Fly. It would be a welcome sight to see those colours in a Grade 1 winners enclosure once again.
