Leeds Can Beat Sheffield Wednesday In Yorkshire Derby
Sheffield Wednesday manager Dave Jones is hoping Friday’s derby against Yorkshire rivals Leeds United will bring a change of luck for the Championship strugglers.
The newly promoted Owls are fighting for scraps in the Championship basement and ten games into the season Wednesday are ensconced in the relegation zone, third from bottom of the league.
Speaking ahead of the live Sky match, Jones said: “A big Yorkshire derby at home to Leeds is certainly a game that can turn around our season.
“Having said that, I maintain there isn’t much wrong here. We have been unlucky. We have not had the rub of the green but we have stayed positive because we know we are not far away.”
The bookies can see something in what Jones in saying, Wednesday are favourites to win, with 11/8 available at Stan James. Betfred offers 21/10 Leeds and BetVictor goes 27/10 the draw.
Matt Le Tissier says: “Sheffield Wednesday have lost five of their last six league games and, while Leeds United haven’t had it all their own way either this season, I think the away side can take the three points from Hillsborough. Leeds look a big price at better than 2/1.”
Leeds are making their first trip for a competitive game at Hillsborough in over six years. It’s a ground United have enjoyed success, winning on four of their last five visits.
Leeds arrive in good form with four wins and a draw from the last five games and Neil Warnock will hope to maintain momentum which could carry his side into the top six this weekend. United are currently seventh, separated from Huddersfield on goal difference.
United’s dangerman is Luciano Becchio, the Argentinian striker has scored eight times in the league already and has made first goalscorer bettors a nice profit, obliging five times so far. The 28-year-old hitman is 6/1 with BetVictor to score the first goal on Friday night.
