Leganes vs Sevilla preview, betting tips and prediction: Sevilla will be looking to continue great form after Champions League heroics
March 16, 2018
Jose Mourinho is his own biggest fan so it was no surprise to hear the manager formerly known as the Special One give himself a big pat on the back this week. However, the context of his praise was a bit odd. He took credit for Sevilla knocking his Manchester United side out of the Champions League.
He noted how experienced he was at knocking United out at the last 16 stage. He had done it with Porto. He had done with Real Madrid. Sevilla could take issue but will accept that they couldn’t have done it without Mourinho’s bizarrely negative tactics. United had the quality to beat Sevilla and yet the Andalusian side are in the quarter-finals for the first time in their history.
Leganes can go some way to proving Mourinho’s greatness this weekend when they host Sevilla. Vincenzo Montella’s outfit are extremely erratic and have already lost five times this year. Three of those defeats saw them concede five goals.
That’s the statistic of a team that regularly implodes. It’s hard to see them shipping five to Leganes. It’s almost hard to see Leganes scoring five goals in five games. They’ve only managed 23 in 28 La Liga games this season. Yet they have a superior defensive record to Sevilla and this is where they could foil their opponents this weekend. It will compound the embarrassment Mourinho should feel. Or pride. It’s hard to anticipate.
