Liverpool v Arsenal Betting Tips

When it comes to reliably entertaining Premier League fixtures, one particular heavyweight contest never fails to amaze us. Liverpool and Arsenal have contested many goal-laden bouts over the years and we continue to keep the faith in more exciting rides this season.

Last campaign, the two fired in a combined eleven goals in their two meetings, including a fiery 4-3 Liverpool win at the Emirates on the opening weekend to the season. It was to be the Reds who did the double infact, defeating the Gunners 3-1 in the repeat fixture at Anfield; eventually also defeating Arsene Wenger’s side in the battle for fourth place.

In both camps, we see two similar situations. Both teams started with high scoring games, followed by a low scoring game. Both camps have a key player missing with transfer speculation rife. Both clubs are tipped to be competing for that same fourth Champions League spot again this year.

Philippe Coutinho looks set to miss out again for Liverpool, citing illness with Barcelona rumoured to be ready to make a £138m bid. Alexis Sanchez could continue to play no part for Arsenal while his future at the club remains in doubt; he has been sidelined with an abdominal strain. Liverpool will also be missing Adam Lallana, who is out for several months with a thigh injury, and likely Nathaniel Clyne once more with a muscle injury.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been explosive in their absence, regardless, brushing Hoffenheim aside twice in the Champions League, dominating Crystal Palace and narrowly missing out on a win at Watford. Arsenal have only been seen twice this campaign, struggling their way past Leicester and embarrassingly falling to defeat at Stoke (again).

Since taking over from Brendan Rodgers, Klopp has faced Wenger three times and got the better of him twice, drawing 3-3 in the other match in the 15/16 season.

Bookmakers aren’t entirely convinced this is Liverpool’s match to lose as it stands, pricing the Reds at around 11/10. The draw is currently 11/4 at the time of writing, while Arsenal to win is 5/2.

Although many in Liverpool’s attack have impressed, Sadio Mane has shone most consistently and can do the damage against Arsenal once again this weekend. He has scored in both of his previous encounters with Arsene Wenger’s lot and looks deadly in every game in Philippe Coutinho’s absence. At 9/5 with William Hill, Mane is the best bet to grab a goal in this game.

If many positive comments have been made about Liverpool’s forward qualities, their defensive frailties have been mentioned just as much. Arsenal fought a wild 4-3 victory over Leicester on the opening night of the Premier League season and they should be able to break through Liverpool’s shaky backline here.

Unfortunately for them, it’s probable that Liverpool will be able to outscore them in the process. Backing Liverpool to win and both teams to score 13/5 with Paddy Power appeals greatly, while Liverpool simply to win the game at 11/10 must be considered by more cautious punters.
