Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been through more ups and downs than a Blackpool rollercoaster over the last few years so he’ll feel a certain amount of sympathy for his opposite number, Paulo Fonseca, on Thursday night when Man Utd host Roma in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final.
Fonseca’s position as Roma manager feels even more precarious than Solksjaer’s has ever felt with well-sourced stories suggesting that only Europa League glory would save the Portuguese’s job.

Man Utd are not in the position of requiring Europa League glory to seal a return to the Champions League.
As frustrating as their goalless draw with Leeds was, Solskjaer’s men are all but guaranteed second place in the Premier League table and will be looking forward to launching another attack on the European elite next season.
Solskjaer will need at least a couple of top-class reinforcements to have any chance of seriously contending in the Champions League next season but for now they look the strongest team left in the Europa League.
