Matt Le Tissier's FA Cup Fifth Round Preview And Betting Tips
Matt’s Weekend Acca
It’s a big weekend for football with the 5th round of the FA Cup and the match that stands out on Saturday is the late game, Manchester City versus Chelsea. Jose Mourinho’s side has already done the double over Manuel Pellegrini’s team in the league and Saturday looks the time for City to take their revenge.
It would be a big ask for Chelsea to beat City three times in the same season and I think with everything that’s going on at Chelsea, Mourinho may just rest a few of their players and give Pellegrini’s side the initiative. I fancy City to win this one at 13/10 with BetVictor.
FA Cup holders Wigan will be a tough challenge for Cardiff who are not in great form at the moment. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will want to get some wins under his belt even if it’s a cup competition but I think Wigan can get something out of this and take Cardiff to a replay. 5/2 is a stand out price for the draw with bet365.
There’s an all-championship affair between Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton where the Owls are in good form. My old team mate and manager Stuart Gray has done a good job at Sheff Wed and I fancy him to continue in that form with a win over Charlton. BetVictor is offering good value 11/10 for the home win.
Sunderland v Southampton is the early TV game on Saturday and Saints were beaten at the Stadium of Light in the Capital One Cup earlier in the season when we played a fairly weakened side. I think Southampton will have a much stronger line up this time but Sunderland have got other priorities and they might rest a few, so the away win could be on the cards here. I’ll go for the Saints at 13/10 with William Hill.
First up on Sunday is Everton v Swansea and even at odds on, 8/13 with Coral, this is a home win for me. Swansea got a great result against Cardiff but haven’t been in good form while Everton at home have been pretty solid, not losing too many on the last year or so and I fancy the Toffeemen to through.
Sheffield United have surprised a few in the cup, most recently Fulham in the last round but this is a tough one for the Blades, Nottingham Forest have been decent this season and will put a strong side out. I fancy Forest will end the dream for Nigel Clough and go for the away win at 13/10 with Ladbrokes.
We’ve seen what Liverpool can do against Arsenal in the league but it will be a different proposition at the Emirates where the Gunners have home advantage. It will be a lot tighter this time around and I’ll take Arsenal to edge it by the odd goal. Arsenal to win by 1 goal is 18/5 with BetVictor.
Brighton take on Hull on Monday night and despite City’s poor league form, they should do alright on the South coast. They’ve had a couple of results lately which have given them a little breathing space at the bottom of the division and although Brighton have been in good form, Hull can win this at decent odds of 5/2 at Stan James.
