Michael Conlan targets triumphant return to Belfast in Adeilson Dos Santos clash

Michael Conlan (7-0, 5 KOs) makes his long-awaited return to Belfast this weekend as he faces Brazilian challenger Adeilson Dos Santos (19-4, 15 KOs) on home soil.

The rising Irish star rose to prominence in the amateur ranks and has been swiftly making an impact as a professional since signing with Top Rank and making his debut on St. Patrick’s Day last year.

A stint in America building his reputation and honing his skills saw the 2012 Olympic Bronze medallist debut at Madison Square Garden, accompanied by Conor McGregor, as well as outings in Chicago and Arizona.

Conlan also earned a spot on a Manny Pacquiao card in Brisbane, Australia, but now makes a welcomed return to Belfast for the first time since entering the paid ranks.

Having recently paired up with esteemed London-based trainer Adam Booth, whose stable also boasts WBA bantamweight titlist and compatriot Ryan Burnett, Conlan is aiming to continue his climb up the ladder in front of passionate home supporters.

At the SSE Arena the 26-year-old will take to the ring as the massive favourite but he is a promising 17/10 with Paddy Power to stop Dos Santos inside rounds 5-8.

The visiting Brazilian can be a testing opponent on his day, though, and has previously fought for a world title, when he was ultimately knocked out by former WBO super-bantamweight champion Jessie Magdaleno.

Dos Santos will take to Belfast as a massive 22/1 outsider with Betfair to spring an unlikely surprise and ruin Conlan’s return to home territory.

Conlan chasing rampant return on home territory

Following high-profile appearances across the United States and that successful showing Down Under, Conlan is now seeking a rampant return to his home city.

There are a host of top match-ups across an exciting night of boxing action in Belfast, with Tyrone McKenna facing Jack Catterall, Jono Carroll and Declan Geraghty squaring off and Paddy Gallagher colliding with Gary Corcoran at the formerly known Odyssey Arena.

But it’s Conlan who will be looking to steal the headlines on the night he makes a long-desired return to Belfast and he is 2/1 with Betfair to earn a decision triumph over eight rounds.

The featherweight prospect is odds-on 4/11 with Paddy Power to end Dos Santos’ Saturday night early. But the Brazilian’s only two stoppage defeats have both come in round 2 and Conlan is 11/2 to maintain that trend here.

After developing as a professional across the pond, Conlan is back where he initially learned his trade, as the rising Irish star prepares for what he hopes will be a happy homecoming.

Michael Conlan is 17/10 to win in rounds 5-8 with Paddy Power.
