Port Vale Look A Tasty Bet Against Oxford United
Second placed Port Vale bid to the close the gap on League Two leaders Gillingham when they take on Oxford United at Vale Park on Monday night.
Vale are six points off the pace but a victory against 19th placed Oxford will put the home side just a win away from top spot with a four point cushion above third placed Cheltenham Town.
Odds for the match betting are surprisingly open given the gap in the teams’ League standings. Port Vale are just a shade of odds on at 10/11 with Stan James while BetVictor goes 16/5 Oxford and 14/5 the draw.
The reason could lie in Vale’s patchy home results this season, the Valiants have produced their best form while on the road, racking up five win on the bounce away from home. Leaders Gillingham are the only visiting side to leave Vale Park with maximum points but draws against Torquay and Dagenham & Redbridge have been disappointing in the comparison to away form.
Matt Le Tissier says: “Port Vale have only lost a home to leaders Gillingham in the league this term and they have a good opportunity to continue their push for automatic promotion when they host struggling Oxford tonight. Vale are a tasty 10/11 with Stan James.”
United kicked off the season well with a win at Bristol Rovers followed by back-to-back home wins but the wheels have fallen off Oxford’s wagon since then. Chris Wilder’s side arrives on the back of four consecutive away defeats in the League but will be buoyed by a 4-2 win at Cheltenham in the Johnstone’s Paints Trophy last week.
Vale striker Tom Pope is on fire this season with 11 league goals in 11 appearances and looks to be the player for goalscorer bets. Ladbrokes bet 6/5 for Pope to score at any time and 4/1 to net the first goal of the game.
