Premier League legend Matt Le Tissier tips Preston for a narrow win against Blackpool in the first round of the League Cup on Monday.

Preston kicked off their League One campaign with a home game against title favourites Wolves on Saturday and face another stern test when entertaining Championship side Blackpool in the first round of the Capital One Cup at Deepdale.

The Lilywhites looked slightly more dangerous in an evenly matched 0-0 draw with new signing Kevin Davies coming closest to scoring with an effort in each half. Otherwise it was a game of few chances and manager Simon Grayson was happy to take a point from the opening game.

Matt Le Tissier tips Preston for a narrow win against Blackpool in the first round of the League Cup Matt Le Tissier tips: “Preston’s new signing Kevin Davies has experience at the highest level of the English game and will be looking to get off the mark for his new club sooner rather than later. He scored home away against the Tangerines when playing for Bolton last season and looks worth a bet at 13/2 with bet365 to score the first goal.

Blackpool have a poor record in this competition and have not won a League Cup game for four years, losing to lower league sides for the past three seasons. Preston defended well against Wolves on Saturday and could keep another clean sheet tonight. The home side can nick this at 2/1 with William Hill and the 10/1 at BetVictor for 1-0 appeals for the correct score”.

Blackpool started the season with a 3-1 win over newly-promoted Doncaster who returned to Championship after a four-year absence. Rovers put up a good show in their opening home game, fighting back from Steven Davies’ first half opener to equalise in the second half. But, late goals from Gary MacKenzie and Tom Ince saw the Seasiders take the points by a slightly flattering scoreline.
