The Tom George stable has enjoyed a consistently good season and his string of horses continue to be in very good form in 2017 so far.  He has saddled up 6 winners from 18 runners in the last couple of weeks.

His Double Shuffle is high up in the betting for Saturday’s £100,000 BetBright Handicap Chase at Kempton Park.

This Grade 3 event is one of the best races of its kind on the National Hunt calendar, and this 7-year old looks to have a very good chance of landing the top prize under jockey Adrian Heskin.

Double Shuffle displayed plenty of promise in novice hurdles back in 2015, winning two races convincingly, one of them at massive odds of 50/1.

He continued to hold his form pretty well through last year and despite a couple of indifferent runs, certainly showed the potential to progress over fences and land a big pot or two.

After failing to fire at Newbury behind Roman Flight back in November, Double Shuffle went off at 8/1 in the 32Red.com Handicap Chase over this course and distance of three miles at Kempton. Wearing a hood for the first time under Heskin that day, he was always well positioned in the race and jumped and travelled very well with the addition of the headgear.

It was his first step up to this trip, but he saw it out very well in the end, staying on strongly to beat Go Conquer and Our Sam with a fair bit in hand at the finishing line.

This was most definitely a career-best effort for Double Shuffle, who really seemed to thrive around Kempton that day when carrying top weight.

He has taken a 6lb hike in the handicap now, so runs here from an official rating of 149. Having produced an RPR (Racing Post Rating) of 153 there, he could still be ahead of the handicapper.

Obviously there are plenty of dangers, the likes of Tea For Two being the class horse in the race, while Kempton specialist Irish Saint is appears to be a big threat.

But Double Shuffle could be improving at the right time and he looks sure to give backers a run for their money at healthy betting odds of 7/1.
