Saturday’s Big Race Tip:

3pm Cheltenham – My Tent Or Yours at 13/8 (2.63) with Betway

The Stan James International Hurdle at Cheltenham on Saturday afternoon is set to be its usual top quality affair over the minimum two mile distance. Bet on Cheltenham.

The New One is putting his chasing career on hold to have a go at this race, while Dan Skelton’s Mister Miyagi is a real dark horse and an improving contender at the top of the market.

But the field may have to succumb to the will and class of My Tent Or Yours, who ran ok when 3rd at Haydock on heavy ground first time out and he is sure to improve on that; particularly with the promise of nicer ground this time. He is a warm favourite with the bookmakers at a top price of 13/8, but Nicky Henderson’s veteran hurdler has all the credentials to shine again on a big Saturday of horse racing.

For a hurdler with an official rating of 155, My Tent Or Yours has now gone a long time without a victory but the runner-up in the Champion Hurdle at last year’s Festival will have an excellent chance to record his first success over timber since December 2013 when he lines up for Cheltenham’s Grade Two International Hurdle at 3.00pm, the most valuable event at the track’s final meeting before Christmas. (Just over £74,000 to the winner)

My Tent Or Yours is one of 10 entries for the International, a race that many racegoers still remember fondly under its former name of the Bula Hurdle, but the field lined up against him could shrink significantly by the weekend due to the unusually fast ground that currently holds sway at Cheltenham.

This fella is at his best on decent ground, that much we know. He travels so powerfully and given his quirks, he finds a lot more for pressure when he can bounce off the ground. This doesn’t look the strongest of renewals in terms of newcomer potential, so the “old guard” could hold the aces here and My Tent Or Yours is the most naturally talented of those and gets my vote.
