Bogart Silver Cup Value

Alan Kelly recommends Bogart and Farlow as value selections for Ayr's Silver Cup on Saturday

Being too dogmatic regarding any draw bias on the sprint course at Ayr can often end up a huge mistake and while the opening two days of the Western meeting suggested that high numbers could have a major advantage the safe option in an effort to find tomorrow’s Silver Cup winner is to pick one on either side rather than putting all one’s eggs in the same basket. First place to start is with the horse drawn 25 of 27, Bogart, who is available at 8-1 with Stan James and William Hill and the Kevin Ryan-trained five-year-old is likely to shorten up even further with the mount of Amy Ryan looking to have plenty in his favour and off what looks a reasonable mark of 94 should take the world of beating.

The son of Bahamian Bounty has always looked a talented sprinter but lost his way a little after winning a good York handicap last August although the gelding came back to something like his best on his most recent start when second in last week’s Portland Handicap at Doncaster. The winner there, Muthmir, is now tipped to make his mark at Group level making the runner-up’s performance even more noteworthy. Of those drawn on the far side the one who takes the eye at a massive 25-1 with several bookmakers including Bet365, Skybet and William Hill ( all paying out on 5 places ) is the Richard Fahey-trained Farlow. The six-year-old has been campaigned over further this season but the mount of Tony Hamilton has plenty of form over tomorrow’s trip as when a close fifth in last year’s Bronze Cup.

The son of Exceed And Excel started the season with an excellent fourth in Doncaster’s Spring Mile and has been running consistently well since that effort and a fast-run six furlongs could be just what the horse needs to show his best form and looks overpriced at current odds.
