Ohio Gold To Win Exeter 2.35 (Tues)
It’s over three years since Ohio Gold last ran over hurdles, so a return to timber should spark Colin Tizzard’s Bay back to life in Tuesday’s 2.35 Challenge Cup from Exeter.
The mount of 7lb claimer Paul O’Brien enters on an attractive hurdles mark judged on his chase form towards the back end of last season and, although his showings over fences have not been easy on the eye, a race of this nature is very much for the taking for the nine-year-old at 11-2 value with Bet365.
After falling at the fifth when 13-2 at Bangor most recently, the return to hurdles is likely to be the perfect solution to end Ohio Gold’s win drought which stretches back to March 2014, when he opened out in a close contest at Uttoxeter with Ut Majeur Aulmes.
Favourite for the 2m3f outing on Tuesday is the David Pipe-trained Sinndar’s Man, Nick Scholfield now taking the reigns of the four-year-old which struggled to cope in very heavy conditions on his last two starts following a brace of victories last Autumn.
The hard-pulling Risk A Fine won easily here in January but has disappointed ever since against tougher opposition, while stablemate Quick Decisson has claimed two victories over hurdles but on testing ground each time and has run poorly over fences most recently.
