Mark Johnston sends three runners to Epsom today and Freebets.com racing pundit Alan Kelly likes the chances of Jalingo in the 3.55 ToteExacta Pick The 1,2 Handicap over ten furlongs.
The three-year-old switched from the all weather last month and made an immediate impression when winning at his first attempt on turf in a nine-furlong handicap at Hamilton. The son of Cape Cross acquitted himself well in two subsequent runs, when fourth to Cosmic Halo at York before being finishing third behind Croquembouche at Bath and looks good value at 6/1 with bet365.
The early favourite Jakey looks the biggest danger. Pat Phelan’s lightly raced four-year-old is a course and distance winner and with two victories under his belt from four starts this term, there may be some improvement left.
Last year’s winner, Weapon Of Choice bids for back to back victories in the race but has shown little of merit so far this season and the fitting of a tongue-tie doesn’t inspire confidence.
Jonathan Portman-trained Pasaka Boy should be treated with respect. The four-year-old course and distance winner has yet to get off the mark in seven attempts this campaign but has been running with credit and deserves a win soon.
Top weight Star Watch landed a hattrick when winning at Newbury last and may well try to make all the running here. His victories have come on softer ground than he is likely to get today and the combination of 9st 8lbs and good going may prove too much at this level.
The other four conestants are not out of it, Stormardal won a similar race at Ripon last time and Lugarno Palace is two form four this term. The progressive Dolphin Village is dropped in distance after being successfully campaigned at a mile and a half this term and similarly Yaakoum drops to ten furlongs after showing respectable form over longer trips.
