Racing Tip: King Of The Danes To Take Ripon Feature At 11-1
Back King Of The Danes At 4.10 Ripon
The feature race on the card at Ripon on Sunday afternoon is the £25k Ripon,Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse Handicap at 4.10 in which southern raider Yeager from the Jeremy Noseda stable is likely to go off a clear favourite on the back of a promising second on Lingfield’s all-weather last month when going down by just three quarters of a length to the James Doyle-ridden So Beloved. Racing off a 1lb higher mark at the Yorkshire venue the mount of Graham Lee does not look particularly well handicapped and a better bet at the 11-1 available with Betvictor (recommended on Twitter at 12/1 yesterday) could be the Mark Johnson-trained 4-year-old King Of The Danes.
The son of Dansili hit a rich vein of form at this time last year starting with a creditable second to Romantic Settings at Musselburgh ( a month later that horse was racing off an 18lb higher mark after finishing runner up to Liber Nauticus in York’s Group 3 Musidora Stakes ) before recording victories at Ascot and Goodwood. The second of those wins earned the horse a rating of 89, 7lb less than he will be asked to run off at Ripon and if the mount of Joe Fanning can return to that kind of form the gelding should take the world of beating from the bottom of the handicap. After a four month break King Of The Danes returned to action at Chester in September but didn’t show his best on that specialist track finishing fourth to Powder Hound in a valuable handicap.
With two runs under his belt this season the selection should be spot on for his third start and can overturn Beverley form with the winner Dubai Dynamo ( as short as 5-1 with Coral ) on 5lb better terms for a beating of three and a half lengths, while the main danger may come from the hat-trick seeking Manchester who could still be one step ahead of the handicapper off a mark of 82.
