No Doubting Mistrusting At Doncaster
20 Runners are set to go to post for Doncaster’s Group 3 Sceptre Stakes on Thursday afternoon for which the Barry Hills-trained Qipco 1000 Guineas fifth Fadhayyil looks certain to go off clear favourite following her victory in a competitive York Listed race last time and while the daughter of Tamayuz is sure to prove a tough rival a better value bet looks to be the Godolphin runner Mistrusting who has continued to improve since making her seasonal reappearance at Leicester back in May.
After showing promise in her two starts as a juvenile, finishing runner-up on her debut before landing odds of 1-3 with the minimum of fuss in a Haydock maiden, the daughter of Shamardal was unlucky to run up against Magical Memory at Leicester on her seasonal reappearance, going down by a length and a quarter when conceding 3lb to Charlie Hills’ gelding who is now rated 23lb higher on a mark of 110.
Stepping up to tomorrow’s trip of seven furlongs for her next start in a Newmarket handicap the filly made short work of the in-form Woodcraft before heading to York for a valuable fillies’ handicap at the Ebor meeting. Sent off a well backed 5-2 favourite the mount of William Buick was always travelling well and despite the runner-up Dusky Queen reducing the advantage to a neck passing the post the winner never looked like relinquishing her narrow lead.
Richard Fahey’s charge renews rivalry once again, this time on 4lb better terms, but it will be a surprise if she can turn the tables on her improving opponent and apart from Fadhayyil bigger dangers may come in the shape of Irish challenger Magestic Queen and the French-trained pair of Penmaen and Pearly Steph.
