Back Fond Memory At 3.50 Kempton

The William Hill Bet On The Move Handicap Chase at 3.50 Kempton has quite an open feel despite just the 8 runners and it could be worth chancing a bet on Fond Memory at 7/1 for last year’s winning trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies.

The Dr Massini gelding made a winning start to chasing over 2 miles at this meeting 12 months ago and has generally looked a sound jumper over fences with a string of creditable efforts to his name. After going close over 2m5f at the track in March under Jamie Bargary, today’s jockey Sam Twiston-Davies was back in the saddle to steer the 7-year-old to a second success over fences over 2m7f at Worcester off a mark of 110 in May.

Fond Memory then put in a creditable run for third off 7lb higher before being rested and was never likely to be seen to best effect on his return to action over an inadequate 2m4f at Warwick last month. With that run under his belt, today’s 3m trip should suit and a 2lb ease in the weights gives Fond Memory an excellent chance of notching a third chase win at a venue which the horse seems to enjoy.

Ballinroab looks to be the main danger and is likely to go off as favourite on the back of a solid second at Stratford, while Koultas King is fresh from a spin over the smaller obstacles and could be dangerous back over fences. Fennis Moll won at Stratford yesterday, so is unlikley to feature and Midnight Cataria hasn’t quite lived up to expectations as a chaser, though could threaten if putting it all together.
