Racing Tip: Quick Jack For Cesarewitch Compensation At 10/1
Ante-Post Tip For Cesarewitch
The Tony Martin-trained Quick Jack was the subject of plenty of ante-post support to win York’s Ebor on the Knavesmire last month, but the five-year-old failed to make the final cut for Europe’s richest handicap, a situation which may turn out to be a blessing in disguise as the son of Footstepsinthesand could have struggled against some speedier types at the Yorkshire venue.
The gelding’s revised target, next month’s Betfred Cesarewitch at Newmarket, could be perfect for the dual-purpose horse who has all the hallmarks of a potential full-scale gamble come the day making the 10/1 currently available with Sky Bet, Coral and Betfair Sportsbook a price worth taking.
The winner of a four-runner handicap at headquarters last August when ridden by champion jockey Richard Hughes Quick Jack was then switched to hurdling and soon made his mark over the smaller obstacles going on to win a 19-runner handicap hurdle at Cheltenham with the minimum of fuss. That run was followed by a creditable third in the valuable boylesports.com Hurdle at Leopardstown before reverting back to the Flat to run out an easy winner of the two-mile Connacht Hotel Handicap at Galway in July.
Prior to the Cheltenham victory the horse had two outings on the level, winning at Navan and going down by just half a length to Sir Ector in the Movember ‘ Premier Handicap ‘ at Leopardstown, and is open to plenty more improvement under both codes making his current Flat rating of 94 a potentially lenient mark.
Pallasator heads the weights for Newmarket’s 2m 2f stamina test on 9st 11lb but is set to concede Tony Martin’s charge 17lb, a situation which time may show to be an impossible task. The Philip Hobbs-trained Big Easy should come on for his recent second place in the Injured Jockeys Fund Cesarewitch Trial at headquarters and looks overpriced at the 33/1 on offer with Paddy Power but Quick Jack looks the one to beat for his shrewd stable and looks a gamble waiting to happen.
