Back Redvers In Ascot’s Victoria Cup

Saturday is the stage for some fascinating racing under both codes, made even more interesting with a record-breaking Scoop6 pool expected to top £7.5 million and anyone still in with a winning chance heading to the final leg could not have been set a more difficult challenge with Ascot’s 29-runner Victoria Cup the finale following the first five contests which in themselves are far from easy to solve.

There must be a possibility that the bet which has rolled-over for the past ten weeks will prove too difficult for punters once again but anyone lucky enough to select the first five winners could do worse than including course specialist Redvers to claim the £100,000 seven furlong cavalry charge at 3.50. The Ed Vaughan-trained 6-year-old has ran seven times at the course, recording two victories and running with credit in the other five, and despite facing a career-high mark of 98 looks sure to run well again under Frederik Tylicki.

Fourth in this race last year behind Excellent Guest when drawn high in stall 21 Redvers may be better suited tomorrow from berth 8 and at the 16-1 available with Betfred and Paddy Power ( both paying out on the first 5 home ) is taken as the value each-way bet of the race considering any easing in the ground is unlikely to pose any problems for the son of Ishiguru. As expected there are a host of potential dangers, nonemoreso than Loving Spirit who has threatened to win a decent handicap for some time and Brownsea Brink, the mount of champion jockey Richard Hughes who has gone close in two decent handicaps already this season and comes from a stable bang in form.
