Racing Tip: Rizeena To Atone For Newmarket Flop In Irish 1000 Guineas
Rizeena Can Take Irish 1000 Guineas
Sent off a well-backed 9-2 chance for the Qipco 1000 Guineas at Newmarket earlier this month the Clive Brittain-trained Rizeena failed to live up to her lofty reputation, coming home in a never-dangerous seventh place behind French challenger Miss France and Lightning Thunder but on a course that is likely to suit the daughter of Iffraaj much better than headquarters the filly can overturn the form with Olly Stevens’ runner-up by taking Sunday’s Irish equivalent at the Curragh for which she is a best price 11-2 with Coral.
For whatever reason Rizeena has never produced her best at Newmarket, of which her trainer said: ” I think the Curragh will suit her better than Newmarket. She has had four runs at Newmarket and been beaten four times for different reasons. Some horses at Newmarket don’t produce their best. To win a Guineas you have to produce your best but when she ran in Ireland she showed what she could do and I think she is a better filly this year anyway. I was very confident before the English Guineas and I have seen nothing since to put me off the Irish Guineas.”
Brittain has been a genius where fillies have been concerned during his long career and rates Rizeena favourably with Pebbles and Sayyedati, two of the best of that sex to race during the last 30 years, and if the enthusiastic master of Carlburg Stables is to be proved right she should take the world of beating at the weekend. Already successful at the Irish venue when winning the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes as a juvenile, proving too good for Kiyoshi and Tapestry after finishing a creditable third in another Group 1 contest at Deauville over an inadequate six furlongs. My Titania who had to miss Newmarket due to a bad scope could turn out to be Rizeena’s biggest danger but with the benefit of that Classic run the Newmarket filly is expected to come out on top.
